wide-band a/f????

ok i actually have 3 questions...and if i dont make anysense is because its late and im tired...

1st...i had a custom exhaust (2.25") put on header back with a carsound hi-flow cat and had a bung for the o2 welded in down the line after the cat and i have been getting the infamous check engine light for insufficient flow for cat...and i have seen on here people recommending the one with a o2 bung on the cat...could not having the bung on the cat have affected this?

2nd...im pretty sure my upper o2 keeps going out on me and i am pretty positive my a/f ratio is not exactly in the bounds it should be by the way it runs and smells most of the time....so i was wanting to just put in a wide-band o2 and adjust the fuel mixture with a fpr. Can the wide-band replace the existing o2 or do i have to make another bung for it.

3rd....instead of a a/f ratio gauge can i just get an AFC or the emanage now and control everything because i am definitely planning on getting a turbo down the line or the vortech supercharger....so i dont have to change as much when i do get it. Also before then i will have soon the 62mm TB and venom intake manifold with my AEM ram air i have right now.
I just want it to run good for a while with what i said above without the charger or turbo for a while.

any input is greatly appreciated

I get that as well. Your sensor was designed to see a certain amount of exhaust flow and it's seeing too much exhaust flow going through your catalytic converter...that's why it's throwing the code. Either way, whether if it was on the cat or after the cat, it will throw the code.

An SAFC or Emanage won't tell you your A/F Ratio. The e-manage would best help you with fuel tuning when you are boosted.

Also, you should be fine with the TB & Manifold.

1. Unless there is a huge price difference, I would recommend just getting a cat with 2 bungs on it (one before, for your wideband, and one after, for the post-cat o2 sensor.) If you end up throwing codes with the one you had custom welded in, you can just switch it to the one on the cat (and until then, just leave a plug screwed into it (you can get those anywhere for cheap).

2. Adjusting the fuel mixtrue with an fpr could work, but if the upper o2 sensor keeps feeding the computer bad data, it will continue to have problems. By no means can you completely remove the upper o2 sensor and replace it with a wideband and control the mixture yourself - the pcm would go nuts. If you mean use a wideband o2 sensor to not only show you the mixture, but also give data to the pcm, i believe some widebands have a narrowband output which you could possibly wire in - dont be sure on that. I just say, replace the upper o2 sensor with a new one, and see if you still have problems.

3. SAFC is good, but for applications where you really want to customize things, the megasquirt and emanage are gods. (I've heard many good things about the mega squirt, as you COMPLETELY cut the pcm out of the loop, putting you in FULL control of fuel injectors (no rev limiter, and no other limiters either. You'll stil lwant a wideband with both of these, however, so you can see if you need to adjust for richer or leaner.

Hope all this helps... anyone feel free to add to/correct my info.

thanks that helps alot
so i can actually get a cat witha bung in it already and put a wideband in it as long as it is on the front of the cat and not post......i just thought that being on the cat itself it will not read the same as if on the header..correct me if im wrong...thanks

oh and i currently have the 53005...and the only 2 bung cats are the 94065 that are 2.25" cause the regular round 2 bungs are too small of pipe diameter...will the 94065 be really cramped or will it fit fine also like the one i have right now...i just dont want to jack it up and take measurements.

sorry bout some of the stupid questions
