I put this question in the interior forum but realized I should have put it in here, so here it is. I'm looking for the absolute lightest DOT legal racing seats, other than some four figure carbon fiber seats from Japan. I use Kirkey aluminum drag seats right now but I got pulled over the other day and aside from the usual things I get tickets for, the officer finally realized my seats aren't DOT approved and wrote me a ticket. These seats weigh next to nothing, maybe 12 pounds, so what's out there that would be comparable?
i doubt any racing seat is DOT approved to be honest. and i also doubt there are DOT requirements for seats...i'd look into that before you go buy something else. if he's BSing you call his supervisor and report him.

I used to race cars, now I race myself.

I've never had a problem until now. I've been searching the web for info, but no luck so far. I do know that there are laws regarding them, I just haven't found the traffic code yet. It makes sense, to an extent. The EVO VIII comes with Recaro racing seats, and if they weren't DOT approved, they wouldn't be in the car from the factory. And I do know that my seats were labled "not for street use" when I got them. I just wonder what they base the standards on. I'm going to fight it, no doubt. I could probably get off if the officer can't provide the section code that he says I violated.
...im not sure about dot approved, but i doubt you are gonna get pulled for having racing seats.
you want the momo hi-techs. 10.2 POUNDS for each bucket. lightlightlight. Ive got a set of momo rsgt2s, and i love em. however, note that the hi-tech is not reclineable, and probably not real comfortable. anything with a recline feature is gonna more than 20 pounds.
...don't hate!.. respect people that have talent, even if it is in something you don't like or understand.
racing seats are no big deal as long as you have harnesses of some sort. as long as there is some kind of harness your car should pass inspection just fine.

I'm not worried about comfort too much. The reason I got pulled over was speeding and no front tag. Then he did a rundown on my car and started writing me tickets. Most of them are legit, I'm just not happy about this one. I'm not sure what the laws are like where you guys are but cops here can be over the top when it comes to a car like mine. But thanks for the input, guys.
i have Corbeau FX1 racing seats in my car and get pulled over for "being seen with street racers" all the time. never get tickets for anything just warnings to watch myself. if i didnt get a ticket at those times i doubt you should get one...unless you really pissed the guy off.

I personally think someone infringed on his right to consume large quantites of donuts and coffee so he took it out on me, but that's my opinion. I too get a lot of crap just because of my car's appearance. I get hassled a lot anyways because of the cage and the fact I have almost no interior at all, and they ASSUME it's not street legal. The Fast and the Furious wannabe morons ruined it for everyone. I'm not even a street racer.

Sad but true. That's why I run around with the domestic group here in KC. Because cops will always have the 14 - 16 second slow ricy hondas and such to pull over and screw with out racing. Hell, they sit and watch my group. Then again, my group is composed of mostly F-bodies, a few turbo imports, one crazy fast all motor honda, and occasionally the owner of a local shop brings his 900 hp GTR out.

Ah, yes. The elusive GTR. I got to ride in one when I was in Japan a few years ago. I thought I was going to cream my shorts. Scary silly fast ride. I usually run with my friends from ClubVR4. Theres nothing better than blowing the doors off of a high dollar sports car driven by some over compensating jock strap. Particularly in a built to snot 4-door. We do get hassled on occasion when we're in the JDM. It's right hand drive and the cops find it odd that the guy in the passenger seat is the only one in the car and yet the car seems to be just fine driving itself at the speed of death. Most of them get a kick out of it once they stop us.
John, your registry lists "high-flow fuel injectors"...could you elaborate on those?

Well the most fun we had was going through the drive thru at White Castle backwards. They were like WTF.
