Build plans.... Any Input??
Wednesday, September 28, 2005 8:05 PM
I'm finally makin good money, so in the next few months i should have a lot done to my 04 cavy. my plans are forged 10:1 pistons and connecting rods for the block; Patriot Stage 2 head w/ jbp stage 2 cams; AEM intake, RKsport header, high-flow cat, and custom 2.25 exhaust; and SPEC stage 3 cluth and flywheel and a lightened crank pulley. i already have a B&M short shifter and suspension mods. if i ran nitrous with that setup, how big of a shot could i use with the stage 2 cams and 10:1 pistons. also let me know if i left any thing out. thanks 4 any input

With a forged internal setup, you're good for an 100 shot easy or even more, your biggest problems will be traction LOL. With a high shot you have to change your plugs to colder spark plugs, retard the timing and make sure you supply Premium fuel.

Also, do you plan on just running under Nitrous or Boost? If you're staying just under nitrous, why not raise your Compression Ratio from 10:1 to 10.5:1 or 11:1?

I think the most you could spray safely is a 75 shot if you just go with an off the shelf wet kit, the problem is the fuel puddles in the intake manifold and when that ignites bad things happens, if you go with dirrect port I'de start with a 100 shot and as long as A/F ratios look good work my up. If you put in a progressive controller it will take the initial jolt/shock of a big shot which is bad for the engine and for traction, with a progressive controlled direct port setup on forged internals, as long as the fuel keeps up and you find a way to retard the timing enough, proper plugs (talk to Karo) plus running all the proper safety back ups, RPM window switch, fuel pressure cut off, ect... (also use 2 solinoids per lines for extra safety, that way if the nitrous line gets stuck open you blow @!#$ up cause the chance of both just happening to go out at once is extremely unlikely. If you do a proper top of the line nitrous setup with the built internals I could see easily being able to use a 150 shot. You would want to look in the head gasket though while its all apart. I wouldn't go much higher then 10.5:1 compression for daily driver, so that sounds good. Your gonna have tuning issues with all the stuff listed so either wait for HPT system to come out, or look into Tec3 or another form of stand alone.... tuning is EVERYTHING don't cheap out on the engine management. throw in a throttle body as well for the intake side. As for the exhaust if your running a built motor with alot of nitrous save your money and don't do a full exhaust, just buy a header and get an electronic cutout welded to the end of the header and then just keep stock exhaust form there back (quicktimeperformance.com QTEC valve with whatever size cutout matches the outlet size of the header. If your going that deep with performance you will be nowhere near the cars potential, you will NEED suspension, a nice set of coiloevers with adjustable shocks, all the trans mounts and motor mounts, A-arm bushings, ect.. subframe brace will help with wheel hop alot and strut bars and crap like that will help keep everythign symetrical and firm. You'll need to stay on a street tire unles syou do somethign with the axles, if you run a slick with that much power chances are you will snap an axle when it hooks up.traction is good but at the same time if you don't hook you don't break. but its late and I'm tired so i can't think of anythign else to add right now....

but seeing as your 18 year olds with a part time job in college (acording to your profile) I really really really dought you will get anywhere near what you have planed, theres alot of post liek this saying this is what I'm gonna do what do you think and MOST (not all) have never fallowed through.... but good luck to ya, eventually a street driven eco on the bottle has to beat my nitrous times

lol god this forum is great. I would say go with some motor mounts first off and some trans. bushings as well. I would even say to go as far as getting control arm bushings too Keep that power stable as much as you can. The 100 shot or more is accurate, but I would simply run a 75 shot with that just to be safe. The motor will already be making quite a bit of HP, so a tone oof nitrous is not necessary. I would even go as far to saying you might want some upgraded CVs from the driveshaft shop help make sure ur stuff wont crack down the road. Aways good to play it safe, esp. since you sound like me (Im 20 years old, part time worker twice which is like fulltime at 50+hours a week and a full time college student) and this thing is your DD. Remember that, don't kill your reliability if this is all you've got.

I'll have a sig someday....................

^^^ I ran a single foger wet kit with a 100 shot + all the bolt ons and cams, running drag radials.... on stock internals 75 shot isn't @!#$ if everything listed above actually done get done

thats about what my plans are to the JBP stage 2 cams are nice once im able to get that head itll wake the motor up alot and like they all said above traction will be a big issue it is for me right now and im just slightly modded good luck it should be fun watching the times drop. and with the nitrous with a direct port and proper fuel and timing i dont see why a 150 shot isnt feasable but i havent tried it yet so i cant say for sure
