56mm TB idling insanely high, please help!
Tuesday, September 27, 2005 3:15 PM
This afternoon I decided to bolt up a 56mm 2.3l TB I had laying around. I bought a new o-ring seal that goes on the S/C for the TB flange, and went to town. I used all the sensors on the 56mm as I was supposed to, IAC went all the way in when the car was turned on, all seemt well. I centered it perfectly before tightening down the 2 bolts that hold it on, and applied a little sealant to the o-ring.

After many uninstalls and reinstalls I cannot get the car to idle below 2500 rpms, I had it down to 1500 once, took it off, made sure it was sealing, etc. and back up to 2500. I sprayed TB cleaner everywhere trying to find a leak, but no luck.

Any help appreciated! Pic of TB here-

get rid of that nasty huge tb

that is the old tb , you want the 92-95 tb , it looks very similar to our stock tb in size and shape

A - it either has a vacuum leak

B - IAC is wide open

C - you dont have it clocked right for the s/c , you can see the IAC air passage on the bottom , if that is not covered that will cause a large leak , its in the bottom left of your pick just above the throttle wheel

How would I cover that bad boy? As I imagine that is my problem thinking about it.

...and my big nasty TB works just fine! LOL. U-wrench it had one of the other ones, said Rochester on it I believe, but I grabbed this one.

iac issues is my guess....

that or you need to tinker with the idle adjustment screw...you middle finger is on the arm piece that stops on it.

what about the TP sensor or the throttle position sensor maybe it's bad or not gettin the right voltage?

This is interesting. I am bumping this to get some more info given that I am soon to be the owner of a 95 @.3 throttle body and want to know what's up with them. Glad it bolts on though and gives some decent power over stock. Hell, I might finally need an SAFC to tune this stuff!

I'll have a sig someday....................

UPDATE: TB pictured was a bit used, the shaft moved a bit, allowing a gap between the butterfly and TB. SO I junked it.

I picked up the newer one Eric described, idles much better! After sitting it'll idle down to 1000 but when driving, pushing in the clutch, it'll idle around 1500. I can deal with it, but I am going to tinker with it to see if I can get it idling right all the time.

Also why can't I use my IAC with the newer 56mm? The location and passage looks identical.

Also any way to swap on my cable assembly, so I can maintain cruise and so that it sits right? I'm using my stock bracket now, had to drill out part of it, and the cable sits a tad higher on it versus on the TB.

Thanks!

the shape of the plug is different and it wont seat properly

do this to reset your iac motor

key on wait 15 seconds , then key off 15 sec , key on 15 sec , key off 15 sec , key on start

Thanks Eric, I just drove it a bit more and it fixed it right up, so it idles perfectly at all times now!

I have my filter right on the TB (relocated battery), and it sounds amazing now! I gotta nice little bird chirp around 2-2500ish range when cruising too.

Everything though is mint, minus not having cruise, but I'll keep looking for one with it, and sell this one to a friend if I ever do find one.

you can switch the throttle rotors if need be, if your cruise control runs off the black plastic rotor
