ok my question isnt really to compare the engines them selves but really to find out which is more practical as in $$$$ and weight/power ..for instance..roughly how much would you think it would take to swap a 3800 in to say a ..z24? (anyyear) ..also i was wondering how much .appx. it weighed ...these are a few things i need to know

Sorry but I can't answer how much it would cost you. It depends on what kind of deals you can get on the parts and how much someone is going to charge you to do the work. I can say for sure it would be more than swapping in a quad 4. As far as weight goes the 3800 is about 200lbs heavier give or take. I didn't notice any difference in handleing but a huge difference in power thats for sure. If you want to mod either engine the 3800 will go much further mod for mod than a quad 4 would and be much more reliable.

I agree with Raven on that aspect of the 3800. You will reach a point where you will want to stop modding the motor because it's just getting too fast. 280 lb/ft of tq is a LOT of power to start off with in a Jbody.

well i have no doubt that the engine is more reliable and has a much higher potential for power..its mainlythe cost that worrys me..dont get me wrong..ive invested over 3k into my engine alone so far so i know what it takes to get where you want but when you start talking 5k+ i think (personally) id rather get another car that already had the engine ya know? ....my quad weighs about 450 lbs so the 3800 is about 650 correct? and with about 3.5 grand invested ive gotten about 250 NA hp ...with a s/c probably to come...these engines would probably run pretty close beside each other if the 3800 was in stock form but i really see the potential it has and was wondering just how far you think you could take it

Well I know of a turbo'd L67 that dyno'd at 619 HP at the wheels and is running very low 10's and trapping at 139MPH in a full size. Not sure what it is running now but they were just starting to tune the thing when those numbers were run. I am over 300hp and 350tq with about $1500 invested into it.

that doesnt seem like that much money when youve gained that much power..seems really worth it..i guess the only hard part is getting the engine put in right?

I want in on this one,
I am thinking about doing this swap as well (probly in a couple years being the struggling student i am)
what i was thinking of doing
- brand new crate engine (I know $$$ but i get a discount from my mom)
- 6 spd
- turbo the L67 ( to run 10s at least)
I am expecting to shovel over probly close to $20000 by the time i am done but it will reach super car status when i am
a couple of questions for ya
1. is it worth doing this swap ? ? ? (i think i already know the answer)
2. will i be able to mate the six spd to the L67 easily?
3. single turbo or twin turbo?
sorry for the post jack but its still kinda relevant
Whats up people?
see..now thats why i decided not to do it...hte money for the car + the money for the engine+ the 20k planning to put in it...i could get a corvette and be happy for the rest of my life with that..i dont think i could dump that much cash into a Jbody..didnt we just have this discusion a while back??

i personally would never put that much into a J, simply because im not really into the body style.. but i can DEFINITELY see why people would do that. to have a cheap-looking car that can smoke $80k and up sportscars would be awesome.

well of course not. you have a corvette you @!#$ lol j/k

yeah i think we did have this conversation already but that was before I got the idea of the 6 spd
and the thing bout the money is if i spent 12500 cnd tax in for the car + 20000 for the engine through in another 4000 for body paint and maybe simple kit nother 3000 for interior = 39500 cnd
having a car that looks ok but not spectacular pushing 400 +hp at the wheels smoking the doors off vettes and vipers is priceless
not to mention the oppurtunity of some sponsorship possibly selling my in car computer system and getting development money for car to computer interfacing
i dunno people ask me why to a cavalier and i say why not and all i ever hear is "cause its a cavalier" but its no different then the guys runnin 1000+ in there civics (on juice of course)
i would get a lot of respect from people round here especially if i go ahead with it cause pushin 350 in a v8 camaro is huge around here and if i do it in a cavalier and start hangin 10s people are gonna turn there heads and stop asking why
thats my answer to wht
