NA vs Boosted

I am not sure what to do NA or Boost. I want somewhere near 300 whp and the way the ecotec is, torquey sob, 350 ft\lb. i know that it would be easier to go turbo, but NA is so old school it is awsome. you have the blow off valve with the turbo. and the wwwwrrrrrrreeeeeeeeeee. but you have the lobe with high profile cam that you can say is just a miss or a engine problem. can you even get 300 whp out of a ecotec NA?

you won't make 300 hp without boost in an eco. no effing way.

First, Spotabee is correct, you will not reach power of 300 HP N/A. WIth boost, yes very possible.

Second, if you want a good turbo setup or what to do with your ecotec, please read the Full ECOTEC Build Guide and that will answer most of your questions.

wrong

you could reach 300hp n/a definetly

just to get there, you'd probably make your engine unstreetable, and it would be incredibly expensive.

it would take sick compression, aggressive cams, ignition and fuel out the ass, and forged rods... removed balance shafts, etc etc

when all is said n done the engine would be a screamer, but it wouldn't be very happy on 87 octane or daily driving

boost is easier yes, but n/a not impossible def not

Ok let me re-phrase what I said...

It is possible but it wouldn't be a street car and the amount of mone you'd spending to do this, you could have way more than 300 WHP.

you are right. but i was thinking of realisticly and streetable. sure, i'd love to see a crazy 13.5:1 compression eco that doesn't run under 2500 RPMs at all... but... yea... good luck driving it anywhere.

that would be awesome

Squril is right it CAN be done but its not gonna be streetable. G.M. did it but it required running nitro methaine and insaine compression. Jut go with a turbo or blower but acording to G.M. once you hit 250 or above you need new rods or the powered metal ones we have will come apart. Good luck.

Semper Fi SAINT. May you rest in peace.

u better ahve a lota cash just sittin around to make 300whp in an eco....going NA is a good way to go..its safer and i'm just a bigger fan of nonboost thats just my opinion....less stuff to break and go wrong....if u want boost build an NA motor and put all the boltons you can on it throw in some new pistons and cams and a ported and polished head....and put a bottle in the trunk if u must.......but without the bottle you will still be pretty damn quick

I say make it 300hp N/A then slap a nice turbo kit on there and push it to about 20psi ahahaha 10sec jbody?

The First Twin Charged jbody
blue car (R.I.P) - 240whp @7psi..
silver car - 305whp 315lbs.tq @15psi (91 Octane) or 420whp & 425lbs.TQ @20psi (94 octane+Alcohol Injection)
All dynos run on a Mustang dyno

Put it this way, by time you get 300 whp N/A, you'll have some freaking high ass duration camshafts and ridiculously high compression pistons which aren't good for boost.

thanks guys your helping a lot. it would also be a bad idea to stroke it that but a turbo on. and i think that i will need 20 psi just to fight the compression. and if gm got it to over 1000hp 300hp should be nothing. come on it is only a 120% gain.

also how good is the eagle rods and crank. and does anybody sell pistons other then gm? if you have any links for parts please post them

Jeffat ImportBuilders.com used to sell some pretty badass race blocks for Eco's. I'm sure he still has deals on pistons and rods as well.
