When he says "GM Cams" I'm thinking he's talking about camshafts sold by GM, not a seperate company...

I wouldn't consider LZM camshafts a better idea...(hence the LZM Group Purchase)

If you want good camshafts, read the ECOTEC Build Guide for part numbers and references.

In Europe we have a lot of good cams for the Ecotec, cheap regrinds as well (Pipercams)

Last I checked, GM only sells cam blanks.... you need to send them somewhere to have them ground anyway. The only advantage to this is that they are more reliable than reground stock cams because they haven't been spray-welded. If you buy GM cams all you are getting is a cam that hasn't been cut yet, you still need to sent them to Crane, Comp Cams, Elgin, wherever, to have them ground to your specs.

To be honest, with cam grinding being fairly cheap, I don't believe in buying off-the-shelf, one-size-fits-all cams. Its much better to call up a company that has been doing cams for years, and say, this is my compression ratio, i'd like a powerband between X,XXX and X,XXX rpm, etc, etc, and have them come up with something. So, yes, buying the blanks from GM is fine, but you can't just install them like that, or your car won't even run, actually, if they leave enough excess material on the lobes, they won't even fit in the head until they're ground down.

they are in the 2005 Performce book i read the guide. they are percut. and gm says that they are for a turbo or NA. if i had the book in front of me i would give you more info. and the website doesn't have them. also how will having the neutral balance shafts. i was i could give you guys the numbers.

it would be funny to see someone try to run the blanks, it would make me laugh.

Ok, I personally have the phsyical handbook and the first time it mentions changing your camshafts is in the 400-600 HP section. This what it says:

GM Handbook wrote:Camshafts

GM Performance Parts offers a matched pair of high performance cams (part number 88958636 and part number 88958637). These cams require the Bates race valve springs and retainers to avoid coil bind.

So I don't know where you got they they offer a certain turbo one and N/A one...
Do what Scarab said and find out what exact kind of gring you need and what you are looking for in your camshaft.

I think me and you are talking about 2 different books. I think you have the GM High Performance Catalog and I have the ECOTEC Performance Build Book.

I think GM High Performance does have camshafts...I heard of 1 person getting it but it's not really popular.

Those cams advetized by G.M. don't even exist. When I looked at trying to get them I was told the manufacturer doen't have any stock availible. After more phone calls then I'd have cared to have made I found out that Crower grinds the cams fro G.M. and that the part numbers listed are for some fairly large gring cams. Crower sells like 8 different grinds for the ECOtec and they've been grinding cams for like over 50 years
so I'd recomend checking them out. And Mr.Crower is a great guy to deal with. He quoted me $400.00 for both cams shipped to my door.

Good luck.

$400 isn't bad. second question, i was told that if i ran cams that are made for a boosted engine in a N/A engine you would get a lose. because over lap is good for N/A and bad for boost.

Exactly. N/A cars make power with high duration (causing more overlap).

/\ /\ /\ Heres what service parts costomer asitance center said when I just called them.
Part #88958648 is a ship direct part, sorce has no stock availible. No delivery date is availible, part is non-returnable. Then when I checked the price it told me standard dealer price is $472.83 trade cost is $574.32 and list price is $675.48. Now I don't know about where you work but down here parts employees pay 10% over dealer cost
which puts the price at $520.12 plus tax. And according to G.M. as of 8:03 this morning
none of these cams exist. Thats why I offered Crower as an alternative since they are the company G.M. uses to grind the cams in there ECOTEC race cars. If G.M. uses them for the factory backed raceing program they should do just fine in our cars too.

i found these on JBP

http://www.jbodyperformance.com/new/PartDetails.php?partId=288&catId=288&catName=JP0288

it looks like they come with the adjuster and they will grind them for you at the same price at 559usd with adjuster isn't bad. i have no idea what grind to have. i know what the numbers mean, but i don't know how it will help me. what is a good grind for the ECOTEC

If you read ECOTEC Build Guide I have that camshaft set listed and I have other ones listed.

No, the adjustable cam gears do not come with it, I should know cause I have them and I asked before I bought them and they just said it was for a picture and that it's not included.

A good grind depends on what you're are looking for, do you mind throwing codes? Are you boosting or going n/a?

Then the best thing for you to do is stay with a stock camshaft
