My g/f has a 95 2.2 and she wants to make it quicker. I read the faq and searched but I just got confused. So far I am thinking about motor mounts, 4-2-1 obx header, and port and polished head and intake manifold. My question is will the head and manifold help out a lot or not really? Also if you have any suggestions please feel free. Thanks
The key to "unleashing" power in the 2.2 OHV is in the head. Replace all the parts in that sucker (valves, springs, camshaft etc), port the head out and you're all good. On top of that, get breather modifications like an intake & full exhaust. This type of work isn't really cheap and it's a bit involved. If I were you I wouldn't get an Intake Manifold...keep it stock.

NJHK is correct for the most part. The cam is in the block, so you would have to pull the engine or undo all the mounts, drive shafts, etc.., tilt the block and access the cam from the wheel well(PITA) to pull the cam.
Do all the other things NJHK said above and do the 1.6:1 roller rocker conversion(the engine will"see" a larger cam, more lift, about 2-4 degress of duration and less frictional loss) and you will see a decent gain.
You could also try a smaller cranck pulley, if you dont have a powerful sound system. If you do have a large system, just go with a lightened pulley, the smaller pully won't produce the amperage needed to support the sound system. The pulleys reduce the parasitic losses the the accessory drives, which will allow for quicker and higher revs.
There is also a
Crank Scraper and Windage Tray(see Vortech 2.2 about 1/4th down the page), that will help with oil control in the pan.
No one mod will make a big gain, but the sum of the parts will make a definite difference.
'95 2.2? feel free to mirror me. check my registry, PM me, and i'll tell you exactly where to get everything i got, for the best price.
I was a retard, and now I'm permanently banned.
thanks, but why shouldnt I get the intake manifold? what kind of power do you think this will make? like will it be enough to beat a ecotech with a bolt on muffler? there is a kid at her school that doesnt think 2.2 can be fast? I am now thinking about header, full 2.25 exhaust, roller rockers, p&p head, already has weapon R intake, and motor mounts, oh and maybe a pulley. Is that good you think?
