2200 rocker arm pedestal question
Wednesday, September 07, 2005 10:42 AM
Ok... so I picked up another 2200 head... which I plan on doing a P&P on... I'm also planing on doing the crane roller rocker upgrade...

One question though.

When I pulled the factory rocker arms off, I noticed a groove machined into the pedestal. Now, I'll assume that's to align the factory rocker arms with the valve tip.

But for the Crane rocker arms, it's self aligned at the tip of the rocker arm correct? So, how is the base of the Crane rocker arm going to sit with a groove in the rocker arm pedestal?

Thanks all!!

The studs that screw into the head won't let the rocker even get close to that groove

the stud is cone shaped but the flat portion will cover the groove in the head, and will taper enough so the rocker doesn't bind on the stud

the only thing is the size... if you try to install the rockers and the stud doesn't fit, call howell and they'll send you the correct stud.

there are different heads from year to year on the 2200 OHV altho the differences are miniscule (no effect in performance numbers) certain parts need to be different sizes (the studs for one)

^^ that link is for 1.6:1 rockers, is there a kit for something bigger?
like 1.7:1 or 1.8:1?
I'm looking for more than an 8 hp gain

The 1.6:1 rockers raise the amount of lift from 0.432"(maximal) stock to a true 0.4608". The Crane and Comp rockers are ratio accurate, while the stock GM are not. The increased ratio also increases the ramp ratio, so that the cylinders fill sooner and quicker.
As far as the 1.7:1+ ratio rockers see this post. HotRodV6 and others have been working on this issue along with other valve train issues in this series.
