My brother got a hold of a 2.2 from a 96 Cavi that he wants to put in his 93. All the little things change easy: intake manifold, all the mounts, alternator, belt assembly, water outlets. But the concern is electronics. I know the 93 body isnt wired for a Cam sensor so the computer wont read for one and we'll leave it unhooked. Is this a problem or are we home free?
fuel injection will also be a problem. I believe the sequential fuel injection began in 96 as opposed to batch fire injection from 92-95.
I was a retard, and now I'm permanently banned.
The intake manifolds swap too so the injectors and wiring stay the same. So basically he would just be using the bare block and head with all the 1993 parts bolted on. We have run into wiring/electronics issues in the past so we want to make sure this all makes sense first. Any help is great.
if you can make the 93 block and head work with the 96 intake manifold, fuel rail, and still run the 93 PCM, then go for it.

I think you mean the 96 block and head, with the 93 stuff bolted on, right?
You may run into an issue with the pushrods. I'm pretty sure they're the same, but because of the different cam in the 94+ blocks, the length may be different. You can just leave the CPS disconnected, or plug the hole. If you really wanted to get into it, you could swap to the 93 crank in the 96 block since it weighs less (not by much though).
I went ahead and dropped the motor in last night and it ran really good. I ended up putting all the '93 parts on the '96 motor so there were absolutly no wiring issues. I put the old style motor mounts on, the entire intake manifold and exhaust manifold, water outlet/egr, and my older style crank sensor. Everything hooked up and I drove the car last night, it is much faster than the old motor! I did get new pushrods though to be safe. Thanks for the help.
