low end tq

how much tq do you really loose by adding a 4-1 rk sport header and is it really worth it since my car doesnt go over 108 anyway. from a roll it would be quicker right. but from a dead stop it would be slower? am i right?

its different for every car... but you do lose some off the line...

The loss is worth it IMO, you'll run faster quarter mile times.....

REALISTICALLY....not always...

theres been plenty of people who came back and posted about losing their low end and they run slower in the quarter mile....

thing is, just because you gain "peak" hp... and your numbers rise, doesnt always mean you will run faster. it looks good on paper and for bragging rights, however, if you are slow as hell starting off the line, you;re gonna need a hell of a peak gain to make up what you lost in the begining.
and pray the race is long enough for you to make up what you lost...

check around on some of the exhaust or tb posts... plenty of proof on loss of low end can yeild slower overall times.

I swear when i put my 4-1 header on i gained some tq, because it did feel a bit quicker from the start. When i put my header on all i had done was an intake and exhaust, and with those two mods, i think i lost tq, but when i put the header on, it felt a lot better down low.

the more you add the better...all small pieces to the puzzle....

but things "usually" mess up when people get oversized TB;s and the engine still takes in the same amount of air...

the usually slow velocity....

anything that slows velocity of the intake side or the exhaust side, you will lose low end.

well i spray. but i dont always. i dont want to loose my N/A hp when im not spraying. im sure the header would help when on the juice but maybe not so much off since N20 is more of a high end thing for cars like ours that dont get good traction.

cavaliers get good traction....

thats all a matter of your tires and especially tire pressure and your launch rpms....

i cant count how many times i;ve seen z24;s launch at like 3500 rpm with 32 psi, and wonder why they cant get traction against a lower powered car who atleast put his psi down to 27...

i just know that low end is where we beat car with variable timing. dont want to loose my edge im not going for an all at high hp application with my motor. just really not wanting to kill myself.

thats mainly because your torque takes em downlow, but up top they dominate...although in a quarter mile they usually dont have much time to make it up, or most times simply even it out.

so a say 49mm TB would gain low end and loose high end?

you said the other day that 49mm(i think) was the optimum for the 2200/2.2..

thanks event..

basically if you do the VE equations for the car, it came out to 48-49.

although like gary howell posted, shoot for 110, which is usually better all around.

after i get done around the house today, i'll do the equations and stuff on it, let people critique it.
