as long as you didnt remove the cam or the crank, the timing chain and those two parts are in the block...

so you shouldnt have to time anything.

do yuo by chance know the angles?

if the angles of the valves dont match the head, it could be the seat/valve tappin a bit.

like said, knock could be the rockers...

if it's knockin, let it in. if it's tapin, readjust.

I dont really know how to describe the sound its loud and doesnt sound like all of the valves. I didnt move any of the push rods i kept them with the rocker that they belonged to and in the order i took them out. However they were left were others could have moved them around not that anyone did that i know about anyway. my head was out for almost two months so that left a lot of time for them to get moved. Felpro didnt have the top end set in stock i guess at least thats the story i got. is there anyway to tell just in case if i did install them backwards? What would happen if they were installed wrong i dont knwo much about that. the sound seems to go away at a higher idle. I suppose it could be the exhaust too because i know that needs to be replaced. Could it be that i am hearing the sound louder because of the bad exhaust?

Are you sure it isn't an exhaust leak? I notice a sound that sounds sorta like lifter tap, however it isn't coming from the head, it is coming from my crank pulley. That could be it...

port and polish and vavle job didnt replace the valves though... i took a closer listen and it sounds like its comming from the intake manifold area... gonna look at it agian and see if i missed a bolt or something.... will go from there.... i had the port and polish 3 way valve job top end gasket set new bolts for $310

Did you open the valve cover since you put it back together to see if everything is looking right? maybe a rocker roller is off the pushrod. 3 years ago, when i knew nothing about cars, and i replaced my head gasket, following the service manual, i put it all back together tightened it down, and i didn't know how to adjust the valves, and rockers cause 1 fell off the second i started it. and the exhaust valve on one of the cylinders wasn't opening at all. drove like @!#$. haha. opened the valve cover and it was immedialy apparent what was wrong.
Not saying that might be your problem, but, worth looking in there again.

yeah i have had the valve cover off agian.... you guys keep talking about adjusting the rocker arm is there more to it than just making sure the bulb is in the rocker where it blongs and the other end is pusing down on the valve and spring/
