2.4 CAI

ok..this is prolly dumb question but i gotta ask it... most CAI i see usually go into the fender somwhere or point str8 down to the ground...when i bought my 2.4 cavy it had an intake that was connected to the stock cover thingy..(dunno wat it is) and it was mounted to the battery support bolt.....then it broke...so i went on ebay and bought a "CAI" but when i installed it the filter ended up right where it was with the other one...but this one was longer...now the law of physics says if air travels compacted through a longer tube it usually comes out colder...(you can test this by using straws) but it isnt that much of a difference...so my first question...do i have a short ram or cold air? and the next one is do they make a real CAI for the 2.4 where it will get colder air?

If your filter is inside your engine bay, you have a "warm air" intake system. The way a CAI intake is supposed to work is that the filter being in the fender area is picking up "cooler" air from the outside as your driving, which is semi true. It's only going to pick up air as cool as it is outside, so if it's hot outside, your picking up hot air. With a "warm air" intake system, you'll pick up a good amount of cool air when your moving, performance differences are minimal (it's just an intake lol).

If you want a "real" CAI, AEM I believe makes one for your car...not sure.

ive got an rksport extension ill sell ya. connects to the end of you intake tube and goes right into the fenderwell. ive got me one of them superchargers, so i custom made mine to take a 90 deg bend straight down right next to the windsheild washer resivour[sp?]

not gonna get colder air in the summer time... its hot outside...

laws of physics also show that for every bend you have you slow air flow down....whats the quickest way from a to b....straight line.

long rams, or "cold air" intakes slow down velocity and speed of air flow which is just as important.

Velocity, Volume, Density is what you wanna maximize,

Viscosity, you want to minimize....

in addition resonance will also increase volume intake.

only realistic way you are gonna get COLD air is from putting fridge at the end of the intake...

correct names are long ram intake and a short ram...short rams fit in the engine bay...

the BS "cold air / warm air" ordeal are simply marketing gimmicks... if they were accurate the opposite of cold is hot... so it would actually be called a hot air intake.

also filters in the fender take air from close to the ground... have you ever laid on the ground during the summer... its usually hotter than standing up... the ground acts like a giant heat sink.... which is pretty much the radiant heat you suck up...

your better option would simply be building a heat sheild for what you already have...

example....

less than 5$ and you get the best of what both worlds claim to provide......

yea i never really thought of all that stuff....i guess i was one of those "ricer" dummies that fell for the gimmick....but yea ill look in to that...i didnt think there was much of a difference in performance i was just asking..but thanx guys
