Okay i have read through all of the previous posts on Safc install and the two eco specific ones also. I just want to know from those who are using this on their eco and it is working what did you have to do outside of the install diagram.
I.E. I can figure out how to install it looking at the wiring and pcm diagrams but I have a few questions that were not clearly answered
1) did you have to use any resistors (like in pute's post)
2.) did you have to use a tach adapter,
3) where did you tap for your tach signal i know some of the 2.4 guys were taping into pin 10 ---
4.) did you run into any other issues -- I will be installing mine next week (redoing my entire fuel setup) so any help would be great -- i did search and there is some unclear information and a clarification post would probably help a lot of people trying to hook this up thank you guys in advance
please delete this post I put it in the wrong forum --- or move it either to the boost or the performance forum
I'm one of few who have it on their ECOTEC so I'll help you out

No and I'm throwing a code for low voltage like he had a problem with. It doesn't really effect anything so I'm not worried about it now but come Inspection time, I'd have to figure out the whole resistor trick.

If you read the instructions from the NY Jbodies page on how to install the Greddy e-manage, it's the same thing. When you do hook it up, it will only read half the RPMs initially when you set it for 4 cylinders. This is a result of us using 2 coils. What you would have to do is set it for 2 cylinders to see full RPM range, by doing this it won't effect performance or how the SAFC-2 works (I verified this with Apexi themselves on the phone).

The BIGGEST tip I can give you is...MAKE SURE YOU SOLDER THE WIRES!
I initially took my SAFC-2 to get installed at a shop so they could dyno tune it. The guy who installed it installed it properly but never soldered the wires.
Eventually the monitor would cut off and come back on sometimes, then the monitor wouldn't come on at all but still was powered, then one day on the highway it cuts off COMPLETELY and comes back on. My car was being thrown into limp mode because of it and almost shorted out the SAFC-2. I pretty much had to get it re-installed and soldered this time and re-tune it myself cause I lost all the info.
Hope this way some help to you. Good luck and enjoy.

look for arnjolt he has it all figured out, no codes and is running great
he used a resistor like you mentioned

Wrong. It DOES affect things. Do you like having your car constantly in limp mode where a default fuel map is used instead of calculations based of the sensors? I think not.

Yep. I performed the install of the resistor on his car.
Gotta do the resistor trick.

How am I wrong? First of all, I know what limp mode is. Yes, I went into limp mode 1 time BECAUSE of bad installation (failure to solder the wires)...other than that I have NEVER been in limp mode.
Also, you do not have an ECOTEC motor nor do you have an SAFC-2 so you wouldn't know from experience, I DO. Yes, you installed it on someone elses car but you have not driven it everyday, 7 days a week. I've had this installed since around April, no limp mode and no problems. If there was a problem I would have been done the resistor trick but it really doesn't matter to me right now. If he chooses to do it, fine but all I'm saying is that he will still be able to use his SAFC properly and have it work fine.

Pute is never wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

my car was running poopy until Craig(arnjolt) and I did the resistor trick.....maybe your car is different.

Sorry if I sounded rude but I just don't like when someone tells me I'm incorrect when I know from personal experience. Yes, my car is running nice and strong.

Mr. Sexual Chocolate,
Here's a bunch of info regarding the P0107 Map Low Voltage Code:
CONDITIONS FOR RUNNING THE DTC
- DTC P0122 or P0123 is not set.
- The engine speed is less than 1000 RPM . Or
- The engine speed is more than 1000 RPM and the Throttle Position (TP) sensor is more than 15 percent .
CONDITIONS FOR SETTING THE DTC
- The MAP is less than 11.8 kPa.
- The above conditions are met for at least 6.25 seconds .
And here's what happens when that code is tripped:
ACTION TAKEN WHEN THE DTC SETS
- The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) will illuminate after two consecutive ignition cycles in which the diagnostic runs with the fault active.
- The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) will record operating conditions at the time the diagnostic fails. This information will be stored in the Freeze Frame and Failure Records buffers.
- A history DTC is stored.
- Coolant fan turns ON.
- The PCM will substitute a fixed MAP value and use Throttle Position (TP) to control the fuel delivery (scan tool will not show defaulted value.)
- The vehicle will operate in Open Loop when the vehicle is under 8 km/h (5 mph ). The vehicle will operate in Closed Loop when the vehicle is over 8 km/h (5 mph ).
Straight from the horse's mouth via GM Techline. Don't take it personally that I'm arguing your stance. It's just that your stance is based on pure perception of the information you have available (sensor readings, etc.) verus the logic behind the scenes. Note that the above information states that you CANNOT see the defaulted valve of the MAP sensor from a scan tool. I don't see a wideband o2 sensor on your list of mods. Yes, your car may be "running nice and strong", but I don't think you know for sure that your car is running properly.
Oh and for the record, I DID have an ecotec on my hands in the form of a 2002 Oldsmobile Alero for about a year and a half. The information above is for the 2.4LD9 and the 2.2 ecotec engines. Not to mention, I also had ongoing plans of turboing the Alero until I totalled my red Cavalier. So yes, I've had plenty of personal experience with the ecotec platform and can tell you my experiences have involved plenty of devotion to figuring out the P0107 code.
To lighten the mod, I'd just like to say that I absolutely love your car. The whole look of it just blows me away (the two tone paint and headlights especially).
In conclusion, I restate:
Gotta do the resistor trick.

Damnit Mr Pute for finding proof LOL
Ok, reading that, I understand what your saying. Reach me on AOL/AIM and we'll talk more about it.
Also, thank you for the compliments on my car.

This will help out greatly for me guys, thanks.
Yeah me too,
Now if i could only find the post about the resistor trick.

Remember....syringes go in the RED waste basket.
I had to revamp this thread because I would like to know more about the resistor trick. Did a search only to find nothing. Mr. Pute, any help? Thanks very much in advance!
Also, what kind of gains did you N/A guys get from the SAFCII?

My gains were pretty much getting my top end back but I still need to go back for a proper dyno tuning. My top end suffered because I was running Rich.

I am debating on getting this or what HP Tuners is offering, and I'm leaning more towards the HP Tuners upgrade. My car has very good low to mid range power, but I've noticed that I need to work on top end a little.

You could always get the SAFC-2 for now and then sell it later if you decide to get the HP Tuners product.

I just bought the SAFC-2.

I also bought a Air/Fuel Gauge, so I know using that on a dyno could help as well. Looks like I need to get a soldering tool too. Do you have any tips on tuning? Thanks much in advance!
Peace

Actually a Wideband would be more accurate when it comes to the tuning.
I would innitially take it to a dyno tuning shop...
www.kronosperformance.com / 732-742-8837
Yeah I plan on taking it to a dyno shop. They're charging me $180 dollars for installation (soldering 'n' stuff) and tuning. I suppose that's a good price.
One thing that worries me is the resistor thing, but it seems that your ride is fine without it. Hmm...
anyone have the link to this "resistor trick" or can anyone repost it on here. i remember reading it and was going to save the wiring diagram but didnt

Not in the boost forum.

Not in any forum. Looks like we're DOOMED!
i believe it was Pute that posted it. wheres he at to help out fellow org members haha
