I have a 96 Pontiac Sunfire, engine is completely stock. 2.4l and I just bought it yesterday. I noticed today that the CEL was on and I took it to Advance Auto and it gave me a list of stuff, both 02 sensors, EGR Flow, TPS/Pedal Position Sensor A, Coolant Temp sensor, Camshaft position sensor A bank one.
Mainly Im just worried about the Camshaft sensor and the EGR flow, and Tps sensors. How serious are these and how much is it going to cost me, estimate, on the price, to get them fixed.
Should I unplug the battery and try to clear the ecu and then see if they come back up? Its a 96 sunfire with 188.9k miles on it and climbing. Quick little car. Im used to 1.5 and 1.6 liter honda engines. This thing has some torque to it, well more than Im use to anyway.
Once I get a cam Ill take pics of my car, but here is a rundown on whats been done.
Supra style arch wing, molded to the trunk.
Some weird lookin tailights that look like the really old cars tail lights.
17 inche white 10 spoke rims
All emblems have been shaved.
Tinted windows
Fog lights
Nice sounding muffler.
Painted interior.
Bought it for 1750 yesterday. Its my 3rd car, and I really like it. 2.4l 5 speed.

TPS - important
Cam sensor- should go without saying its important.
coolant temp sensor- important.
Well The guy I bought the car off of is a neighbor and he has 4 other cars exactly like this, only not modded at all, completely stock. He has been my neighbor and my mechanic (works at a shop I always go to) for a while and were pretty close family friends so Im going to have him fix it. Ill call him and ask him tomorow. Anything else important in that list?
depending on what the code number were, the stuff you were mainly worried about, i would look into the codes and what they are exactly (check the maintainence forum, i believe someone posted a list of what the CELS mean)
that and just keep the maintainence good on the car really.
Already working on that. Changed the oil today with Castrol GTX high mileage and going to put the new oil filter on there next time I change the oil. I couldnt get to the damn thing. It will be someone elses problem next time

.
while you are at it, swap trunklids with a stock cavalier of your same color.
I was a retard, and now I'm permanently banned.
