Hey im thinking of doing a 2.2 to 2.4 swap in a 1996 cavalier how hard is this and how much will it run me... aKa cash, also what’s needed Oh and if I have other options in swaps let me know thanx in advance...

it's a direct swap. same mounts. swap motor, tranny, and PCM. as long as the motor is from 96-00 then you are fine. with 01+ then the harness and electronics are different.

You also need to change the engine wiring harness that goes from the PCM to the block on the firewall that goes inside the car.
Your best bet is to find a wrecked Z24 and get all the stuff from that. That is what I did on my sedan.

ah yes i did forget about that part. www.car-part.com is an excellent source for junkyard parts if you don't feel like pulling items yourself.
