Forged Bottom/Fidanza Flywheel End Help
Tuesday, August 02, 2005 3:07 PM
I installed Wisco Stock Compression stock size pistons, Eagle Rods, and a Fidanza 7.5lb. Flywheel. Now the car runs rich and bogs above 3000 RPM. My first guess was a bent or sticking valve or the timing was off, I've already retimed the engine twice and put a new head on, with minimal change to the rich condition. The head is stock with stock cams. Other mods are a CAI, Pacesetter Header, High Flow Cat, and Magnaflow Dual Exhaust. I also put brand new o2 sensors in during the engine install. What is the problem? Or what are possible solutions?

I know the subject line is a little messed up, but someone has got to know something about this. There is plenty of people online right now.

Sure it is not oil? Did you put in stock piston bore and not hone it out; to help the piston rings re seat?

I forgot to put that it's an Ecotec, but the boots and plugs are new, and I had the block miced and rehoned to make sure the rings would seat good. The oil pump and all related parts are brand new as well. Another thing is could the balace shaft timing cause the problem I'm having?

7.5 lbs flywheels generally aren't a great idea on a street car, but i doubt thats your problem. No check engine light? What was your break-in procedure?

The computer isn't seeing anything that's far enough out of spec to throw a code. As for break in I was at about 600 miles of very easy driving and the problems all started, that's when I replaced the head, O2 sensors, spark plugs, and pulg boots. I replaced the head because I thought I had valve, lifter, and rocker problems. Trust me guys the easy solutions hve all been thought of, but I can't seem to see what is going on here, another problem that I have is a ton of noise, I think it's a or more than one pistion slap inside the cylinder, but the pistons don't move around inside the cylinder at all. I inspected this when I had the head removed.

I have the GM Service manual, so shoot me an e-mail at kaotik210@hotmail.com if you want and I can go through the trouble-shooting charts with you.

You said you have noise- detonation? I know you said you adjusted the timing already, but could the PCM have a problem and be screwing you that way? Have you checked your valve-clearances and your piston heads to see if there's some contact there?

Hell, I'm just spit-balling here. Like I said, hit me up in e-mail and I'll ask you the questions right out of the Bible.

My email isn't working currently, but the piston to valvle clearance is good, I have however thought of the PCM issue, but wouldn't that adjust after a certain number of miles. Do you think there might be an issue with the ignition timing or like I said before the balance shaft timing? I'll be checking into the balance shaft issue today, mainly because there are only two things that I think could be wrong at this point, that would be the balance shaft timing and possibly somthing wrong with the either main or rod bearings, although I don't know what could be wrong with brand new bearings, rods, and a new crank.
