Ok guys, I just got my exhaust done but the resonator wasnt welded in because of clearance issues with the heat shield...so I was wondering if any of you guys have custom exhaust on an 03+ Ecotec Cavalier 2 door, and if so, what resonator you have welded in. I really need the resonator because my car sounds like @!#$ right now. Pictures would also be appreciated...thank you for the help.
you have about 30 '' just behind the cat

put it there

no you guys dont understand... there is very little room for a large diameter resonator after the cat, look at the "channel" there is for the exhaust, its very small. My exhaust sounds like @!#$ because there is no resonator with 2.25inch piping and a straight through magnaflow muffler. So, since this channel is so small- I was wondering what resonator you guys are USING on your 03 Cavalier 2 doors. Thank you.
Since you have 2.25 inch exhaust just use a 2.25 inch resonator. I have an 18inch magnapack resonator, makes my borla mellow and deep. Wish i had went with a 24inch, would have make it lower. At full throttle, you can hear my car coming from a long way out!

for starters, resonators arent car specific.
the 30 inch maganflow fit on my car and since we both have the same chassis from 1995 all the way up to 2005....so it will fit on yours.
i as well have 2.25 inch piping.
get a resonator, take it to a shop, tell em to put it on. custom parts take custom work, it will fit.
Ansa resonator click on the my car link to check it out. only 12" though

I already took it all to the shop. They said there wasnt enough room to install the resonator I had, in the channel the exhaust runs through and not rattle like crazy. I've looked at it myself and realized I need a much skinnier resonator. So, to further my question- what are some resonators that are pretty small in diameter that you guys have on your 03+'s?
Thanks,
Devon
I have a 18 inch "cherry bomb" resonator 2 1/2 inch on my 04 Ls Sport 2 door.
If you want pics , let me know and i can get them for you.
03 cavies come with a 20" resonator/muffler i believe. 1 7/8 in/out? correct me if im wrong event. but hes right, it will fit though, and if that shop says it wont , then they suck. dont give up cuz one place cant do the right thing. good luck to you

True story. It's their job to have something that will fit. I'll be damned if I know the brand and part number of the resonator I'm running, and I don't care to know. Find a job not filled with idiots. That's like going to a tire shop and them not having tires to fit.....

exactly...
the shop who says "it cant be installed" simply doesnt wanna do the work...... plain and simple.
most resonators will be around 4 inches in diameter.
obviously a shop may have to deattach your cat, move it forward and then put the resonator behind it....
sounds like you need to go to a shop that knows what they are talking about. any shop that does custom work, that says.... it wont fit..... leave.
once again, 95-03 are the same exact chassies. same sizes will fit.
you keep looking for an 03 specific resonator is pointless. its been the same design since 95.
blacknacavie... yup
thanks a lot guys, I wasnt searching for an 03 specific resonator necessarily- but I know what I need to know now. Thanks.

one more thing, just making sure- you guys arent cutting away at your heatshield to fit a resonator in are you?
-Devon
Cutting the heatshield isn't necessary.

nope not in the least bit.
get as large as you physically can buy.... 30 inch will fit..... and take it to a shop that wont give you any flack.
they might have to move the cat up a bit, but its not a hard procedure. and it shouldnt have to hang down at all.
g'luck
You could go with a hi flow cat. dynomax makes some nice ones

high flow cat isnt gonna do much for sound quality. pretty much all cats are high flow....even stock.... so as long as he has one, he;d be fine.
the cat made a big difference on my caras far as sound, but then the old cat could have been all junked up.
yeah Jersey Kid, could you post some pictures of your setup please? If you cant find someone to host them, then you can email them to me at devthecheese@comcast.net
thanks,
