2.4 ECO?
Tuesday, July 12, 2005 1:28 AM
I was talking to one of my buddies friends today who said he had a 2.4 eco in his cav that he just purchased and I said that i didnt think there was such a thing. I told him that that every cav ive seen that had an eco was a 2.2. He then began to argue with me and said he was goin to call his dad and put him on speaker phone his dad said the eco in a cav comes in a 2.0,2.2,2.4. After this im like no you dont know what you talking about no 95 and up cav has had a 2.0. He said his cav was a mid 90's stock z24. i wanted see this car in person but i didnt have the chance. So I i thought the best way to solve my confusion is to ask you guys. So is this possible?

The eco is a 2.2 in the cavy. The 2.0 eco is the SS/red line Sc eco and the 2.4 is nout out "yet".

The other 2.0 is the 88-89 2.0 OHV.

Haha, people are always getting confused with this, so i'll set the record straight. The Z-24 models, ( the last one was 2001 officially, and it gets a bit annoying when people call the new ones Z-24s), came in DOHC 2.4. They were NOT ECO-TECHS. The eco-tech was new for 2003 on my LS Sport. Up to 1989, Cavaliers had a V-6 2.8L engine, that was my old baby. In 1990, GM upped the displacement to 3.1Ls. He's probably accurate about have a 2.4L engine. But that's only if he has a 95-01 Z-24. Hope i didn't confuse anyone with all those numbers, and i might have made a mistake or two, they just all came off the top of my head, but it's not a bad guideline.

95 Z24 were 2.3, not 2.4. The Z24 was available in 02. I have one, 4 door with a 2.4. The eco came out in 02. It's the only year you could take an Eco with the "older" body style.

OK people. I just checked the Chevy website and all they say about the Cobalt for engines is the 145 hp 2.2L ECOTEC and the 205 hp 2.0L ECOTEC DOHC SS version. If there is another engine for the 2005 model, I sure wish someone would post the link.
As far as someone saying that the 2.0L OHV was from 88 - 89, I had an 86 Cavi RS that had a 2.0L in it. Guess someone got their years mixed up.

Yours is not the Eco VVT though, you have the plain old 2.4L LD9.
