CV shaft question...
Friday, July 08, 2005 7:11 PM
I think mine are shot from being lowered improperly with dropzone and blown struts for a good chunk of time, Now i am in the market for needed new ones. I have been looking around and should i just get some that have had their bearings rebuilt or should i just buy new ones? I don't plan on having serious motor here pushing 250+ hp, but i do plan on tearing into my motor over the next year and maybe a small shot of Nitrous. Any suggestions?

Just buy stock replacements, I think you can get both axles for $150 or so.

remanufactured axles are good.

usually most places is 50-60$ with a 50-60$ core charge....so per side you will pay 100-120$ but get 50-60$ back when you return the core.

I got some prices today at Advance auto 65 for left and right side plus 120 core charge. . But the passenger side was saying your have to use an old part off the original shaft for that side. I forgot what the hell it was called. But then today when i was driving around.... i don't have vibrations anymore.... WTF? But then when my G/F got in the car, they came back? So i am almost 100% sure my problem is shaft related. I only get them when the car sits at a different angle and throws the pitch of the shafts off.

how long has it been since you installed em and got an alignment?

and if its vibrations like a grinding noise it could very easily be your wheel bearing.

I got an alignment about 1 week after i put on my prokit / AGX combo. New rubbers installed 3 days after that onto my rims. Replaced both wheel bearings, 2 times on the passenger side. Had the wheels rebalanced and checked for runout. Had wheels balanced and a performance shop, they were true. The vibrations also occur with my stock wheels. I have no noises comming from anywhere. When the car vibrates its all in the steering wheel. I also have hubcentric rings on the wheels aswell. The tie-rods are tight aswell. This is the only thing left i can think of to replace.

.... also ever since like a week after originally putting on Dropzone springs on my OEM blown struts, it has been downhill since then. I installed those in June of 04 and finally took all that off in april 05. So i think i did some damage riding on that for that long.

^^ Yep had them looked at too.... Just ordered some new shafts. I love having connections. Original price was $69.88 plus a 45 core charge, i got them for 49.99 each plus the core charge which came to $205.18 and then i'll get my 90 bucks back when i return the old ones. .... i got out cheaper than i thought and they have a lifetime warrenty.
