Hi, i am going to be painting my valve cover with high temp enamal, i was wondering if this is a risky operation, by removing it, is there any chance of debri or anything slipping in an screwing up my engine? thanks
i dont think so. but just to be sure, cover it with something.

Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
if you want the paint to stick better and stay on longer, take a light grit sandpaper to the parts your going to paint and rough up the metal.

That works with plastic. As long as he uses Hi Temp engine paint, it will last several years.
As for removing the valve cover, when you remove it, just place a Clean rag over the top, and nothing will fall in. Also, i highly stress to not start the car without the cover, it could be messy.
However 2 things are very important.
1) you may want to replace the original gasket and only costs $15
2) You need to wear gloves, either latex or something of that nature. When doing the prep work. That includes, taping off what ever you dont want painted, and thoughly cleaning the surface prior to painting, The gloves are to reduce fingerprints and oilly spots.

Just make sure you clean it up real well and make sure it is completely dry before you start painting.

I'd suggest something like "BreakClean", to Clean it up.
Hey there to keep stuff from getting into the area I would suggest using a piece of plactic like a drop cloth over the engine I wouldnt use a rag because you could still get fibers in there. I dont think it would do to much harm but still. You can get a piece of plastic for a couple bucks at home depot and it will be way more than what you need but it will do what ya want it to. Oh and you definately want to clean the crap off of the valve cover real light grip sandpaper works good like 400 grit nothing to harsh remember its soft aluminum.
trash bag will do and only cost you a few cents
