I mainly just wanted to post and let everyone know that i am starting my engine build process here pretty soon. i have a spare engine, and i'm hoping to have it done, put in, and broke in by summer of next year so i can strap a turbo setup on it. its a 2.4, and i'm doing a mild build on it so i don't have to worry about anything. if you guys have any tips for me just let me know. i know this is kind of brief but i have to get to work, its also a '00+, so if you have any questions, feel free to ask.
plan it out
take your time
shop around.
Take your time, take pictures as you disassemble if you can, put bolts either in plastic baggies and mark the bag where they came from, or in the hole it came out of. Be patient. If something doesn't seem right, it usually isn't as far as fitment goes.
Read, then process the info, think logically, than if you don't have a headache afterwards, post your response
sorry, i should have said a couple of other things. i have already been planning it out for a while, and am going to be doing it little by little, and i have already taken apart the engine, i just have to wait till money comes in to get the pistons and get the block done. thanks for all of the replying so far, and such quick responses. i am at work and i will post more when i get out.
Just go big enough to kill every other car and drive around daily. Thats what im doing.
going boost eh? what are your plans for tuning? E-manage?

carboncav- i plan on doing a mild build which should be good enough to beat most everyone around here. i'm sure there are cars that would still be able to beat me, but no biggie. i figure if kane5576 can hit a 12.9 on stock internals and a t3super60, i should be able to do a little better then that with a mild built engine.
spotabee- i don't plan on having my engine done and in till springtime so hopefully when i need to shifted has his software out and available, if not i will probably go with the e-manage, i've heard of some pretty good things. i have to research that though, not to familiar with it.
any other questions or tips.
yea i'm looking forward to seeing Shifted's work once its done.
E-manage is a good kit. I've been planning on tuning my car with it whenever the build is done. I've watched cars be tuned with E-manage and the tuning software seems easy to use and navigate, seems like a good shop could completely tune your car within 3 or 4 hours.

thanks event. i glanced through it, when i get a chance i will read it a lot better, i'm sure it will help a little.
spotabee, i really am looking forward to shifteds software, i can't imagine it not being worth it once it comes out. like i said before, i have a little time before i need it, so if its not done, i will just have to go with the e-manage.
also, what compression do you guys think i should go with. i've been debating in my head, but my goal is to be putting down 300-350, and of course i'm sure i'll try and put down a little more after a while, cars are addicting.
thanks for all the responses thus far.
im in the works on a mild 2.4L build planning on turbo, ive asked that same question and ive been told between 8:1 and 9:1 compression for the turbo.
well if i remember correctly, the higher the compression the more power you can put out, but the harder it becomes to tune. someone correct me if i'm wrong. but if that is true, i was thinking, why not go with 9.5:1 i'm still researching, but since i want to get the block done, i need the pistons, so i have to make a decision within the next month. still a decent amount of time.
