I was told a ls-1 throttle body would fit an ecotec, is this true and will I get much gain from it what do you recommend for a bigger throttle body?
Its way too big, only reason you would benefit from this is if you were running an insane amount of boost, stick with anything under 62mm if you are running a naturally aspirated engine.
Oh and sorry, Yes check out RSMs TBs, they are 62mm, there is no hard dyno numbers, although the general consenus seems to be you will get 10-12 whp on the ecotec with inake and tb.
I don't think you'll get that much of a gain. My friend's cavy has full 2.25 exhaust and he put on an rsm 62mm. I'm not sure if this is a one time thing, but the only thing the tb did was drastically slow his low end. He put back on the stock size and was much happier. If I were you, I'd concentrate on finishing the exhuaust before you look into that.
The LS-1 tb is for use on the custom aluminum intake offered by the GM Performance Parts catalog for the eco-tech. Thats probably where your friend got that. But that intakes only for high HP eco-techs.
I just ordered a 62 mm trottle body for my ecotec and i cant wait to see how it works,
Beware the Rouge Dragon.
WEll I cant Vouch for Ecotec Engines, But I used a 60 MM TB and Ported intake and noticed a good surge on MY 2.4. With Cams and all it worked really well. Total output Is right at 250HP, I did mine all at once, so to tell the truth It responds the way it should, I would have to stick on Standard intake and 52MM to see if there is huge difference.

Dont race
But dont push it
theres probably a big difference with cams, but i dont think the 62mm tb does much w/o that. a p&p head might magnify it a bit also. fact is, if the interior of your engine cant take in that much air, then your not going to see that much of a difference. just a theory of mine based on the little bit of knowledge i have.
when they bore out the throttle body do they also give a larger butterfly flap
i bought a 62 mm bored out tb and both butterflies on both the stock and the bored out tb butterflies are the same
is it supposed to be bored out all the way down to the flat bottom piece
Its only as big as the smallest restriction, so if the butterfly isn't any larger, or the area around the butterfly, then you didn't get a 62mm throttle body. The top of the opening isn't where its measured when you see the 62mm throttle bodies advertised. The only place I've seen that happen is on ebay scams.

Buy stuff from CarCustoms Ebay! Won't be disappointed!
because you can see that it is bored out but right at the butterfly it doesnt look bored
yeah its bored on the bottom and top but not the middle meaning that its a fraud
