Did any of u guys put in stiffer valve springs in the head of their 2.4 when they did a buildup?Im having trouble with the timing chain rattling with the extra pressure on the timing chain now.Any ideas? Thanks

The timing chains are notoriously bad on these engines, I`m doing mine soon damn quad 4's!!! oh well thats ok gives me an excuse to throw in the secret cams.

What does stifer valve springs have to do with a timing chain?

Exactly.

If the timing chain rattle is because the tensioner or the chain itself is bad.

A stiffer valve spring will put more stress on the cam rotation which in turn creates more strain on the timing chain tensioner which is brand new.

How much did they take off when they decked the block/milled the head? To much off either one of those areas could result in to much slack in the chain...

Funny... I've never heard of one going bad, and only heard of one snapping with too much power (guy with nitrous). The worst part isn't the chain, its the tensioner.

So what valve springs do you have?
This is the first I have heard of this.

They barely took any thing off the head and the springs are Crower titanium from a talon motor which seemed to work perfect with little modification. It is not a horrible rattle coming from the chain but it isnt as quiet as stock.I just thought id ask guys who have upgraded to a stiffer spring rate and see what they did.

I know someone else who is having a rattle from the timing chain. I would have it looked at. Might be the tensioner. If it jumps timing it could be bad.
