Cooling fan w/ Cams??
Thursday, June 16, 2005 1:08 PM
Hey guys, ever since I installed my cams my cooling fan has been coming on way to early. I'm talking like 15 seconds after I start it in the morning and the engine won't be hot at all. Infact the head and block are still cool to the touch yet the fan is running.
Before the cams It use to come on just after about 195 degree's, but that was after sitting started forever. Everything seems fine, the fan just seems to have a mind of its own now. Any input? oh yah... 2002 fire 5 speed eco. That might help

if your check engine light is on the computer is telling them to come on because of the code that is set

03cfblues- I got Cranes stage 1 from Howell.
97cavie- I haven't had a check light come on yet, and they've been in for about a month.

Sorry, just got off work.
John- It only stays on at idle until I get the car going.
QBE- Funny you say that, I threw the famous P0300 once. It was the second time I fired the car up after the install. Came on at idle, so I checked the plugs, boots, wiring ect. and erased the code. It hasn't come on since. It's good to know at least it has happened to someone else, however I still can't figure out why it would be coming on. Thanks for the replies thus far.

When the fan comes on how long does it stay on?? If you let it idle for 30 minutes will it be on for that long? Reason I say this is when you start your car the computer turns on the fan but only for a real short time.

It will idle that full 30 minutes if I just let it sit.

It threw the p0300 once after I installed the cams, but I checked everything and erased it like I had said above. There is no check light but I'm sure the code is still in the computers history.

If the cooling sensor was disconnected (either not pluged in, or broken wire) would that cause it? (more of a question than anything).. it might be a loose connection or something that isn't throwing a code but is causing the fan to come on. That's about all I can think of... something must be tied directly to the fan circuit without setting a code.

Or maybe it's a coincidentally timed short in the fan circuit
