Trouble With Cats...

okay, ive had the dynomax 2.5" hi-flow cat...and its been bout 2 years and it sounds like its going bad alrdy...

For some reason i cant keep cats on for long...what hi-flows are u all using? How long u had it on?

also you cant really tell by sound. if sound is worsening, you could have a cheap muffler thats going down hill.

when a cat goes bad, it usually clogs causing a car to shut off constantly.

If the cat sounds like it is rattling, it may be the stamped metal pieces vibrating against each other or the heat sheild hitting the cat. I have a Carsounds (Magnaflow) hi-flow cat and mine has recently started to do this at 3500 and 4500 RPM (only 1 year old). Try crimping the pieces together and if that doesn't work, take it to an exhaust shop and have them put a few tack welds on it. Hopefully that takes care of your problem.

Cats usually only go bad when ur engine is running to rich or to lean and it bakes the substrate thats inside the cat so that it doesn't flow any more so unless u haven't changed ur o2 sensor I think checking the shield is a smart place to start
