theft system question(again)
Tuesday, September 20, 2005 8:25 PM
i apologive to keep posting, but my car keeps doing the start stall thing with the theft system, and i've done the whole seguence of leving it foward til it stops, waiting 10 min and then starting and have done it multiple times. then someone posted that once it stalls, i have to turn it back one notch and then wait til it sops and then 10 min agin. what happens when i do this the first time it stalls is that the theft light stops as soon as i turn it back, i'll wait 10 min and it wont work. if it starts and i drive, the theft light will come on as i'm driving. what would make it do that. i am about to run this thing iinto a tree!!!!!!!! please help, i just got done dumping 9g's into this thing fixing it(accident)it worked good for a couple days when i got it back and then my horn went off (as i was pulling out of a parking spot )and i couldn't get it to stop, so i turned off hte car and turned it back on, now my horn doesn't work and the theft bs started. again, n e suggestions are welcome. thanks guys

hmm might be the wiring on the horn it is located on the passenger side being the bumer right under the headlight you might have a short fuse and it's acting up and or you might of got water on the unit and it's malfunctioning best bet is take it to a certified gm technician they shoud be able to tell you the problem in minutes..

keep me posted ..

Engineers design the Passlock™ system in order to prevent theft even if the various theft deterrent parts change. The Tamper mode will engage if any of the following components change:

* The Passlock™ lock cylinder
* The instrument cluster
* The powertrain control module (PCM)

If you replace any of the above components, the system will enter the long tamper mode. If the system enters the long tamper mode, ensure that the system completes a long tamper mode cycle. During the long tamper mode cycle, the THEFT indicator will flash for the full 10 minutes. The instrument cluster and the PCM require the full 10 minutes in order to complete the learn cycle. Ensure that the ignition switch remains in RUN until the indicator stops flashing. If you turn the ignition switch before the indicator stops flashing, repeat the long tamper cycle from the beginning.

since it was wrecked

Diagnostic Aids

* An intermittent problem may be caused by electrical interference on the ground circuit of the IPC, a poor connection, rubbed through wire insulation, or a wire that is broken inside the insulation.
* Any circuitry that is suspected as causing the intermittent complaint, should be thoroughly checked for the following conditions:
o Backed out terminals
o Improper mating
o Broken locks
o Improperly formed
o Damaged terminals
o Poor terminal to wire connection
* Install an additional ground wire from the IPC to the negative side of the battery if electrical interference is suspected.

Do you have the engine harness wired up for a manual trans? If not then you could be having problems there. Also your computer might not be the same as the ecotec computer, unless you swapped that in also. If so and it was an auto ecu, yes it will have to be reflashed at the dealer for the manual. When trying to reset the theft system on the 00+ cars you will have to leave the car on for 30 mins not 20. without opening a door or messing with anything in the car. Dont remove the key just shut it off and then proceed to start the car. Should fire up after a few tries if there is no fuel in the flex fuel lines going to the rail. Another thing I want to add is this. That motor is very sensitive. After installing the fuel rail from my spare motor I had torn an o-ring on one of the fuel injectors. Car wouldnt fire up at all. I checked everything, even the injector harness turns out all I had to do was replace an o-ring (15 cent part stopped it from running) .

Best of luck to you I just fixed my theft light. Read my post at the bottom of the forum page and i explained what i had did and what the cause really was. I would suggest simply checking all your wires if one is loose it will drive you nuts.
