i am replacing the water pump on my 2.4 gt...

any hints on best approach replacing it. i got the exhaust out and ALL them bolts out the timing chain cover, i know the pump is run off the timing chain and to back out the slack adj. for the timing chain, just i don't see it dropping the motor down enough to take that timing chain cover off... and i really don't know or little time to find a place to rent something to lift the motor out to get at it... which seems like what i need to do

for yall that has done it give me a hollar

well the GM book says that it's a 6 hour or so job according the my friend Chad.

Have fun.

the timing cover must be removed and there are several, and I mean several, screws that have to be removed before you can even get that off.

good luck.

yeah, there are a lot and i took a 2nd look and i did get them all, just if i try to lower the motor out the bottom the cover hits the frame, if i try to jack up the motor to raise it up to get that cover off it doesn't even get close... 6 hours lol i started on it a week ago and work on it up todate about 10hrs of time spent on it...

lucky me my wife and i just got an 06 g6... but i still want my gt to run again

I have my 2.4 out of the car right now. I just bought a brand new water pump once I got this 2.4. I think it will be alot easyer after you take the timing chain cover off, then the crank pulley.. Once thats off you'll have to adjust the timing chain to release enough slack to get the water pump out.. Its gonna be so freakin hard to take get to all the bolts of the water pump as well with the motor in the car. It can be done, but it'll just take time and patience.
