Oil Leak fixed!!
Monday, September 12, 2005 2:37 PM
I have a 96 Sunfire with the 2.2L. The engine started to lose oil daily. About a month ago I did a oil change and put in 4.5 quarts, after doing this the oil level was about 1/2 inch about the full line. I was too lazy to drain it and figured that it was OK to be above the full line since I did put 4.5 quarts in. When my oil started to leak I figured great I blew the seals, I got to looking under the car and noticed that the oil level sending until was leaking. This sending unit threads into the oil pan and there was a coating of oil all over the oil pan. I replaced this sending unit today and drove the car for 75 miles and the car has not lost a drop of oil My guess is since I overfilled the crankcase the excess pressure blew out the seal on the sending unit.....I am so glad that the sending unit blew out instead of a seal. I know next time not to put 4.5 quarts of oil in the engine. My engine is full at 4 quarts. If anyone else is loosing oil you might want to check the oil level sending unit.
