Hey all,
I will be changing the front/ rear drums this weekend....
the fronts I have done before, takes literally 15-20 minutes, including "sipping time"on the cold ones...
never have i tackled the rear drums / shoes...
any tips of the trade for doing this job?
I know to take both wheels / drums off, but work on one side at a time, in order to keep track of where the springs etc go...
I have 168000 km's on the car, and the rears have never been done on the car....
crazy eh....
Any help/tips/comments about doing this?
Any special tools I should purchase before doing?
thanks in advance,
make sure that you take time to remove the caliper slides and clean and re-lube them. and use lube on the rear shoes where the shoe touches the backing plate as well as cleaning and re-lube the adjuster on the rear
see ya!
good set of needle-nose pliers for those springs.
wear safety glasses so if you do slip, it won't hit your eyes.
that many miles, suggest getting new spring hardware kit.
don't forget to inspect the wheel cylinders for leaks behind the dust boot.
can of brakeclean to spray down the work area inside the drums to see shizz better.
good time to bleed system to get old-water-absorbed fluid out & fresh DOT 3 or 4 fluid in...
make sure u disassemble the star-wheel adjusters, clean w/ brakeclean, lube w/ high-temp grease.
other mr obvious comments can be made by other members...
