I took a 98 Sunfire for a ride today and when shiftin into drive, it bucked abit but other then that it ran perfect. The throttle was a little hard to press then what im used too. But is the trans something i should worry about??
By any chance was the tranny a 3 speed?? My girlfriend has 98 sunfire sedan with that 3 spd and a 2.2 and it bucks when shifted into drive, the same thing with the gas pedal, its like you have to force it a bit to make it go. Could be just something with that year and the tranny/engine combo??
yea im guessin it's a 3 spd im not sure but its a 2.2 so it might be.
must be something with that tranny. J/w how many miles on the engine?
could be bad mounts.. they will give you a bucking feeling when putting in gear...
Ya sounds like it coulf be a bad tranny mount or engine mount. It's possible that you gas pedal is hard to press because teh pedal linkage is not in line. I would check the mounts first and try to see if they are bad.

How do i go about checkin the mounts and what should i look for?
have somone hold there foot on the brake while shifting from park to drive to park and watch how much the engine moves
People say that what doesn't kill you in this life
will make you stronger. I'm not sure if that is true
or not, but i do know one thing-You have to learn from
it and it has to make you better.......it has to.......
How much should the engine move?? It went back and forth once when it was shifted into drive, that means its alright? Also how far should it move back cuz the first time it went back quite abit then I tried it 2 more times and the engine didn't go back as far.
I have a 4 speed auto and a 2.4l. Mine does buck when being put into gear but rather from 1st to 2nd gear. Only when I dont push it, when I get on it, it shifts fine, but just lollygaggin and drivin slow, it like lurches forward from 1st to 2nd. Does that mean I have bad mounts too? The car only has 40K miles on it and its a 99'.
Is it shifing hard when it is in Neutral and you put it into drive? If so, that is normall. I would also check your trany fluid, it is possible you might need some more. On that note, check it anyways just to see what color it is. If it is something other than orangeish red then you might want to get it flushed.
****correct me if I am wrong about the flushing, but that it was I was told****

i have the same problem. it mine has 130K on the tranny 90 on the motor... but i think the mounts are bad because the motor shakes when at idle alot and it almost feels like my tranny wants to brake outta the mounts.

what have you actually tried so far?? Please list all of the things you have tried. It would be very helpful when narrowing down the problem.
btw, sorry if this post made me come out as a d***, we just need to narrow things down to a minimum

Sorry but i havn't had time to check anything yet i will soon tho
Yea mine does the shifting from 1-2 hard at light throttle. When opened wide up off a start, when it shifts from 1-2 it kinda waits about a sec before kicking into gear. It don't rev up or nothing, but just takes a little longer to get into 2nd gear. What could be the problem? I guess I could check the mounts. So the motor shouldn't shake at all when ideling or reving it up? Is this true?
Thanks!!

ok new probelm now. When i park the car and put it into park from driver or rev. wahtever and the car coasts alittle till it hits that spot and stops completely it feels like the tran is gridin against the engine or something kinda like lettin the clutch out just enought for it to hit the flywheel on a manual and it vibrats the car a bit. also when i back out of my drive way and stop and put it into drive it jerks hard.
