I have a 2000 sunfire 2.4 L and was wondering if anyone had this happen to them so i could narrow it down. When my car is cold and i start it there is no ticking. But when i get in and start driving and start flooring the car between gears there is a quiet tiking noise coming from the motor. Its not very loud, (meaning my mom or someone that doesn't know much about cars wouldn't hear it) but since im used to it i can hear it. After the car warms up the tiking almost goes away completly so im not sure what it is.. My guesses were either a leak in the header or something with the valves. Not sure though so any ideas would help.

what kind of grade of fuel are you using? Or what kind of oil as well? 10w / 30w? Name brand or cheapy? how many miles do you have?
