Do you NJ people have to tip the full service guys everytime they pump your gas? The reason I ask is because all of the full service stations I have been to, you always tip the guy..

@!#$ those gas pumpers....

I hate getting gas in Jersey.. Its especially a pain because Im usually driving my work truck-- I have to tell them a driver number & mileage too--- They usually fark it up.

I don't see why would you tip them.. If I was allowed to pump my own gas, I would.

i thought i heard in jersey they changed that law in 02 i know i heard something about it on the radio they either made full service an option or wanted to make it an option.
and secondly there are 2 diesel handle sizes one for large trucks(in excess of 60 gal) that is found at a truck stop so it dumps fuel quickly and smaller ones for cars and small truck (still think it is larger then a gas nozzel tho) but it pumps almost a 2/3rds slower. belive me if you have a truck you are filling to 70 gal fuel tanks you nottice the time difference.like 10 min versus 30+ min for the same amount of diesel

the view is all the same unless your the lead dog.

In case it hasn't been mentioned already.... not all Diesel nozzles are "big". Many stations have big nozzels at the truck islands and smaller nozzels with Diesel next to the normal gas. I have a Diesel Suburban and I know plenty of stations that have normal unleaded-style pumps for Diesel.

As for it being illegal to pump your own gas in NJ and OR... I never knew that. I've been through NJ a hundred times and never realized this (probably because I hate to stop in the dreaded state). Personally I think it's stupid. I don't trust any minimum wage trigger-happy NJers near my car with a paint-scraper nozzel that spits death juice.

The only reason I could see it, is gas theft.
If they pump it for you, it's a lot harder to pump and take off.
With gas prices the way they are, I'm sure it's a problem.
Here in Ohio, if you get caught, they take your license.
Just a theory, but it makes sense.

I don't kno about filling nozzles, never had a deisel, but I do know it takes a lot of heat and compression to combust it, so I don't think an ECO could run on it period., and if it did, it would be total disaster for the fuel system.

His problem was that its a Ford, not the feul.

As for the pump sizes, the gas station by my house has deisel and unleaded nozzles at all the pumps, and they are all the same size.

As for gas theft, I saw a gas station (super america i think) in minneapolis. I was inside and heard "Drive off, drive off" and a second employee runs to a back room. Next thing I see is spike strips from under the ground and the car bounce and coast to the center medien and stop. Loser.

If people would just realize the idea of pay for your @!#$, and get on with your day, this would not be a problem.
You cannot beat the system.
Those that do what I said, end up paying for those that try, in higher gas, insurance, finance rates...the list goes on.
Bottom line is, the price of gas will not drop, nor will any of the formentioned rates as long as there are people that try it.

i hate living in jersey for that reason. they get 16-17yr old high school kids that @!#$ around all the time. they never tighten the gas cap and your cel always comes on. they spill gas on the side of your. i never tip them. i think they get paid for how many gallons they pump a day/shift

It is IMPOSSIBLE to put diesel into a unleaded gas tank. Why? Because the diesel nozzle have big rings sticking out so poeple cant do it even if they wanted to.

perhaps but...

regardless of what you believe, his car ran like ass after we left the gas station.

It may have been a station that had 3 grades of gasoline and diesel all going through one pump. I didn't pay attention, because to be honest I didn't think we'd have that problem.

Whatever ended up in his tank, it wasn't gasoline.
And no, you don't tip the gas pump guy in NJ. Ever.

don't all yellow-mobiles take diesel?

Pay more attention next time to what you are getting, or is it illegal to get out of the car too??

So do you go behind the counter to watch the people at mcdonalds make your big mac? Do your clients come into the morgue to watch the mortician embalm and prepare the body for display?

People who provide a service are expected to do their job right. Who would have guessed that the A-hole would put the wrong fuel in there.

But leave it to the org to kick dirt in the face of someone who tries to do the community a service by helping others learn from bad experiences. Great job guys

well, it isn't unherd of for an underground tank to take in water,

as for:

i think it would be easier to get away with it, your in the car, turn the key, hit the gas, and take a few souveniers with you like the filler nozzle and a gas attendant's arm. since this law goes back to before a gallon of gas was cheaper than a can of coke, it might deal with over filled tanks, before the automatic shut off ,the tank wasn't full until your feet were wet.

is there a point in arguing this...if it happened, at least he got it fixed...if not, then whatever...he got the attention he was craving by making things up on the Internet

Re: DIESEL IN MY TANK!!!

actually it happens alot more than any of you think

the old diesel knozzles arent as common any more

when i worked for chevy i had to fix several cars and truck that had it happen , and its very costly , the diesel fuel will swell any rubber in the system , and anything with rubber needs to be changed

diesel fuel has alot of oil , which is what swels the rubber
