Need Some Work Done!

So I just traded up my 93' Cavalier Z24, for a base 2 door coupe 2000 LN2 (2200 SFI) engine. 3 speed automatic. I need some work done but need helping figuring out what's going on with my car.

Here's the first problem:

The car whines, but only when accelerating or pushing on the gas pedal. Does it in every gear, no matter what gear, so that seems to rule out the transmission. Car also changes in whine when turning the steering wheel left or right while accelerating. This leads me to think it is the ps pump. Correct me if I'm wrong? Could be something along those lines...

Second problem:

Car starts to tick lightly, but only when it's been warmed up and driven for a little while (about 5-10 minutes or so). Doesn't tick when it's cold, and it sounds kind of like a "clacking" of some sort. Hard to pinpoint, but it sounds like it's coming from near the bottom of the engine, by the whole pulley system.

I'm not huge on mechanics, but really do enjoy driving this car, so any help given would be helping me get that much closer to getting this car entirely fixed up. Thank you all for your input.

BUMP - Need help guys, cmon. I was hoping for at least a little bit of help or a simple response to help clue me in on what's going on with the Cav.

The whine does sound to be the power steering system. Try changing out the fluid and see if that helps. I don't know about ticking lightly. My girlfriend's tick turned out to be a bad rod bearing. I noticed it was louder when it was warm. The sound permeated the whole cabin. One day the gf said it got worse and the engine stopped. Turned out cylinder 4 gave up the ghost and locked completely up.

Hopefully that's not the deal with my car. Changing the oil hopefully tomorrow or Thursday. If anything changes I'll keep you guys posted on the updates. Thanks for the reply Nick.

Alright i got a 97 base 2.2l auto and has the exact same problems the dealer said it was sticky valve train and not to worry too much its common in the 2.2 litre's and the whinning noise is deffinatly the powersteering cuz mine is doing the same thing and its the power steering pump or rack and pinion

Rack would not whine with engine speed, In fact rack's dont whine at all if theres no fluid cavitation... Check level first... Could be cavitating the pump because of low level... If not a new pump is not much more than $50 or so, and it's easy to do.

The clacking is probably lifters, see if you can get a stethoscope on the block just underneath the intake manifold...It is common, however it is uncommon it does so when warm only, usually it does it no matter what, but could be a fluke.
