hi, i have a 2000 z24 cavalier(with 230,000 kms, lol) that has a ticking while accelerating or at higher rpms. sounds perfect while idling, its not the exhaust, its definitely coming from the engine. it hasn't affected the performance of the vehicle, i installed new plugs, and had an oil change about a 1000 mms ago. the ticking gets louder and faster at higher rpms. I'm about to run out and buy some lucas oil and some treatment and octane for the gas. would a valve be the problem? or lifter? id like to get this fixed. i do my own work all the time, plus i live in northern alberta, canada, so shop rates are no less than $200 an hour so thats kind of a last resort for me, i need so ideas on what I'm looking at here so i can start buying parts, thanks in advance for the replies

my buddies eco had that and he was low on oil even after a change. mine did that in a twincam and was told its a rodbearing going. idk it pissed me off and i just lit the fire to ecoswap and havent looked at the boat anchor since lol.
lol, i just bought the car today for a good price, havent looked at the oil yet, perhaps i should look next time i go out. it'd probably be a good idea haha

sounds like a rod bearing due to someone not changing the oil... it could last a couple weeks or a couple years... if you decide to rebuild, do the 2.3 oil pump swap, and get clevite bearings... you'll NEVER have another bearing issue again so long as you regularly change the oil
ok, just say if i were to replace the bearings for now, because i do plan to buy a second engine and put it on a stand until its done, where would i buy a set of these clevite bearings? and would you recommend changing anything else other then whats necessary for the bearing change?

still think this is the problem?
I would check ebay for the bearings. And even though you don't want to hear this that video really really really sounds like a rod bearing knock. I'm a cheap guy and I would bet big money on it. You should be able to just drop the oil pan in the car, without having to pull the engine, and change the rod bearings.
awesome, as i said, its only to get me by for 10,000 kms or so, if that, long enough to get some funds built up for a new engine and build, if it lasts that long then ill blow it up on purpose

lol
thanks guys, picked up a set of clevite bearings and put em in and cleaned everything up and everything sounds perfect now, no more ticking, yet anyway lol. all i did was the bearings and just visually inspected the crank and stuff, there were no visible scratches or anything, it was just like a mirror finish. bearings # 1 and 3 were torn up pretty bad while 2 and 4 were perfect, they're all new now. this should get me by for a while, thanks again.
