2200 engine interchangablity
Wednesday, July 09, 2008 3:13 PM
As far as 2200s I was always under the impression that the 98-99 engines was interchangable and the 00-02 engines was interchangable.
I have ran into some information that says otherwise and I was wondering if I was right the first time. I know you can use 00-02 in a 98-99 or vice versa with some modifications but I am looking for the correct bolt in info.
Thanks

I know that there are some differences. Not sure of all of them but i know the 98-99 use different injectors. Found that out the hard way when i grabbed some at the junk yard.

You can put any year 2200 motor in any year J. You can put a 2200 in a 2.2 (OHV) car.

^^^ very true, there are just some slight differences in wiring etc. I don't believe that my 5 speed tranny from my 01 cavy would fit a older 2.2 tho. Or at least that is what i was told, could be wrong

it would bolt u to the engine just fine. you would just have to cut off the old trans mount and re-weld it in a different spot.

i think the main differences between those years is that 00+ did not have an egr. the 98-99 did, you would need the block off plate and intake mani w/o the egr port punched to go from 98-99 to 00-02, or the other way around to go backwards.

98-99 also had different heads and 00-01 had reverse coolant flow I believe.

The egr statement is correct as well.

some years had a different crank and the older ln2s didnt have the cam sens to time the fuel inj other than that any will fit into any year ..... well except the 1st and 2nd gens (the 2200 intake will hit the power steering rack )
other details will varry but these can usualy be fixed/swaped

my 01's factory 2200 had a egr on it, the one that is in it now is from a 02 and doesn't have a egr. Also the injectors are different in the 98-99, found that one out the hard way.
