yo guys i know this is a j-body site, but i was still wondering i have a 1987 pontiac fiero gt and the guy i bought the car from cant find the key for the lug nuts how can i get them off with out destroying the factroy rims and striping out the bolts? please get back to me
Get an impact socket you don't care about that is about one size to small and hammer it onto the lug nut.
Now this is not going to be easy and there is not really a way of saving them unless you want to buy a key removal kit from a tool company like matco
or snap-on.
You could always go around to your local tire shops... they usually have an assortment of lug nut keys laying around since it's pretty common for people to loose them. They will most likely be able to get the rim off withought hurting it for you.
I took an angle grinder to one of them on a buddies bronco once and cut a slit in the end of it.... then we used the flat (screwdirver looking end) on a lug wrench to stwist it off so we could get to the lug nut underneath.
Some tire shops will have locking nut removal kits which are basically what RED said, except its just a round socket that is a very tight fit on the nut and you just hammer it down until its real tight and then use an impact wrench or breaker bar etc to remove it. Doesn't hurt the lug stud at all or the rim but most recommend you don't re-use the locking nuts that were removed.
