you know what i HATE the most!? Is when ppl say HEY my grandmother got a cavalier too!!

i just look at there car and say nice hub-cap spinners

haha
Around my town..... its not really racing on the track, its just about ill beat you on the highway..... to me it seems to be like its all about making your car flashy big wings and stickers.... i not really into that and they keep on makin fun because i aint got none of that on my car.... im going to shave my chevy symbols and clean the car up a bit and try for a nice exuast, not a fart cannon though...
What the deuce?

This is the main reason that will keep me modding my j... Always funny to hear people being impress by "just a sunfire". We are underestimated and it's something that I like. Plus I saw 3 or 4 j-bodys at the track last year and they are bone stock (either ecos or 2.2). I like to be one of the few there...
I still will always say even untill the day i die is
cavalier=Guys car
Sunfure=Girls car
Even before i got my first 89 and then 94 Cavy,so for someone to say that a Cavalier is a girls car just bugs me to death.
BTW,i haven't been asked yet why a Cavalier but when i do im going to say why a Honda,Posch,Nissan etc etc
I know I'm a little late but I'm putting in my two cents by saying "ABOUT TIME SOMEBODY POSTS SOMETHING POSITIVE ABOUT THE J-BODY". Thank you. (bows down and winks).
OBJECTS ON MIRROR ARE FORDS AND HONDAS
By the way, after a Cougar owner saw my Cavalier w/ the Bomex and Summit body kit he replied: my grandpa' owned a Cavalier! I said,"your grandpa' has great taste!".
OBJECTS ON MIRROR ARE FORDS AND HONDAS
This is a little off the subject but it reminded me of something. I'm in Afghanistan right now. I've been overseas for about 3 1/2 years now. So I've seen my car very little lately. My father in law has been putting the parts on my car. When I've been home on leave I've helped. I helped put the sway bars on. Put the motor together from the head up. We'll be putting in the new ignition and DIS-2; and the springs and Konis when I get home in May. Anyways he'll tinker with it every once in a while and have it running. There's a kid up the street from his house that bought a brand new Cobalt like 8 months ago. He wanted to race my car and my wife's. I guess he thought his car was faster since he cut his muffler off. He seen under my hood and still wanted to race. Crazy kids!!
I only got to drive it once since I got my stage 2 cams and B&M short shifter. Oil leak problems (won't get into it). Definite difference. I ACCIDENTALLY squealed tire in second gear. I mean i can do that anytime BUT accidentally? I'm gonna have to get used to my car again!!!
my favorite line i hear is IT"s still a cavalier.... hear it from everyone...yeah i know its a cavalier..its my cavalier thaty i worked very hard to get....and after a friend of mine(that has a boosted 2nd gen teg) drove it, was very impressed with an almost stock cav..
to all they j body naysayers i say bite me...i will refinance it again if i have to just to keep modifying my J

like we havent heard that before
you do know the fire was marketed as sporty and fast and the cav was marketed as the econobox. anyway, why hate, it's all the same sh*t
I say that this should be stickied somewhere, just so the newbies can read it and not be disappointed.
The community is out there. we have very capable cars and very capable people here willing to step forward and help out.
I know I'm a soldier for the J-platform
besides >.> I could probably outfight any guy who talks @!#$ about my car anyways haha....
Either way, what you have is what you play. Play the card's you're dealt. Win some lose some.
That's just kinda how it is. If people want to talk crap that's their problem.

I have teh same outlook, we'll see who has teh last laugh
Man, I thought I was alone on the whole being told I drive a "Girls car" thing.
I've got a bunch of suspension work done, exhaust, some bolt ons, and a Hahn stage 2 turbo kit on the way in the mail. I'm not doing a body kit, wing, or probably even wheels (I want a set of the factory 16's w/good tires) Leave it as factory looking as possible, and watch people cry at the track when they can't pull away from a Cavalier

Well, around here all the tuners hang out together, we do everything together, race, chill, cruise, but Im still the black sheep.
Every time we hang out theres at least 12-20 times a night were someone will say well at least you dont drive a cavalier, or hey cavi freak blah, blash, blah.... all of them say are just joking, but I know they are not.
I dont care though because I look at them and say, "Hey didnt I destroy you last time we raced. Yeah in fact I beat you with both my cavaliers, I beat you on spray and without, and my roomate beat you with his cavlaier and its an entire differnet engine and setup. Isn't it funny how you talk trash in front of these guys, but you are on the kill list along with all of them."
It basically all comes down to beating them, once theyve been slapped around they usually have mroe respect, but there are those that never give up, they hate you for your car and theres nothing you can do about it. So give them hell, and dont let anyone push you or your car around. Earn respect.
Im the words of the movie THE NEW GUY.
"Whose the bi*ch now!!"
J's 4 Life
Around here its the same any one driving a Honda thinks they are the sH!t.. but who cares most of them are stil in high school.. I say build your car for you not everyone else..
Grimor wrote:I don't know how many times I've been asked "why a Cavalier?"
My friend drives a Civic with underglow and a catback. When I told him I bought a Cavalier he goes, "Wow... I'm sorry." But it was cheaper to buy and to insure than his car, and his is a 96 as opposed to my 98.
The J's dont get that much attention because they didnt go Blasting down the street in a 45 miles drag race with ViN , Paul Wang Chung and Ja Rule.... None of them were shown robbing big rigs in mid day light with spear guns....... if only a j woulda been cool enough for Ja or Tyreas
I'm with you guys about the no respect thing, I just got a 2000 Z24 about 6 weeks ago and immediatly started modding and one of my friends helped me put on my upper/lower poly engine mounts, subframe brace & wai ( the car already had an OBX header and custom catback) noticed that the car seemed pretty quick. So he calls another friend of his to tell him about it and he replies that Cavaliers are BOOTY or pu$$y cars. Now I come from the land of V8 power ( 87 Monte Carlo SS with a 850 hp procharged 383 & TKO 600 5spd) but with gas prices what they are I figured it was time to get something more gas friendly and my brother and other friends tried to get me to buy Rice but I'm a Chevy man through & through so I got a Z24 and I'm going to build a turbo'ed, 086 headed, built bottome end motor that will make upwards of 375whp that will blast most anything in my area.
I believe in spending money when people talk s#&t to me instead of talking back I take it back.
2000 Z24 5spd header & catback for now.
Since your bringing this back from the dead. When people ask me what I drive at the autox I just nonchalantly say "a sunfire".
Then they see me placing in top 3 spots and being a full second or more than their time faster.
Get in the autox scene you'll get more respect for the drivers than the cars, and for me thats what matters is the person behind the car and why their doing it, not the car and whats been done to it. There are exceptions, see the ugly car thread in photos and media.

Did you guys know that a few months back when Hot Rod Magazine did the Hot Rod Power Tour there was an 04 Cavy in it. They said the ECOtec is like the small block V8 from 1969. After reading that I felt real good about owning an 04. I've always been into V8's and never like 4 cyl until I found this site. Also when I first got my car I just looked at it as a Cavalier, but my Cavalier (first car for me). Then I found this website and found a Cavalier is more than just a car. You guys make me feel good about owning a Cavalier. I know some guys that give me $#!T about being a proud owner of a Cavalier.
Another thing, I am 16, 17 in March, and have paid every penny for my car. The plan was to keep the car until done with college, sell it and buy a nice car like a GTO, T/A, possible a used Vette, but now because of you guys I will own this Cavalier until it breaks for good. In case your wondering how I got the money to buy an 04 Cav at 16 I'll tell you I started caddieing at 12. I made $15,000 after my fifth year and decided to buy a car. $5000 went towards college and the rest to a car. I hope to make $7,000 this summer so the car will be really nice by next summer.
On a side note I've never been asked/forced/pressured into racing.
Best Time 15.917 at 86.86MPH

That reminded me of a story. A friend of mine went auto-x'ing in his stock '83 Civic. He ended up doing better than a lot of cars, including a modded C5 Z06. The guy had never tried auto-x'ing before. Just goes to show that it really is 90% driver, 10% car.
