Right now I'm fit to be fitted for a straitjacket since somewhere, in the recesses of the sewer I call a mind, a single blade of grass has just turned a camel into a paraplegic.
Okay, so, with Saturday having been a somewhat decent day (fairly warm, unfortunately a bit of sun rather than overcast), I decided to not only run Skađi through the touch-less wash, but also do a bit of interior and exterior detailing. I also put some rain-X on her windows. Anyhow, as I'm wiping of excess water drops, on the back, next to the license plate, I notice this:
The paint was scraped down to the bare plastic. Now, when I find the turd that did this, I'm not only going to defenestrate the slug-infested c***, but also feed them through the gears of a combine and then have Rosie O'donnell mung their freaking corpse!!!!
So, no, I don't need advice on how to take care of the perpetrator, which, right now should be preying...err...praying to every deity ever conceived, and be making up new ones to pray to that I don't find their worthless carcass.
Then, as I was driving home afterwards, minding my own bloody business, listening to some Samael and Naglfar, when I hear a loud *CRACK*. I look over to the passenger's side...and notice that this just happened:
AND SHE'S WASN'T EVEN 1500 MILES OLD YET!!!!!!! (note, the black dot is the reflection of a bird that flew overhead...the damage is the white chip and the crack in the glass).
Looks like I have a new windsheild to buy soon--so, at the meet, that might be the only major flaw on her
I swear, some days it doesn't pay to chew through the leather straps.
Thanks for letting me vent...

Very unfortunate,I take it you don't have any kind of a warranty?BTW I always wash my own vehicle,I'll never take the car to a wash, even a touchless.

Don't have even hose faucets at my apartments, at least not ones that i can't get at...so I have to go touchless until it's warmer out.
And really, warrantee wouldn't matter since it's damage and not a defect. If anything it'd be under insurance, and worst-case, my deductable is $500.
Had I seen the truck that the rock came off of, belive me--they would be paying either in cash, or pints of blood.

if you can find a good window repair place they can fix it with out replacing , i watched this lady fix a crack that went top to bottom on the windshield
that sucks about the damage , atleast now its devirginized , so you should be good now
The question is, with the way the crack is, could they fix a crack to that the crack is not apparent? Or would they fix it so the crack wouldn't spread?
See, if it was the latter, i might as well just save up for a new windsheild, since the crack would ruin her looks. Plus, it's unlike it will freeze here anytime soon.

if they are good it would be about 90% or higher invisible , you would know its there
someone else would most likely never notice
The only way to stop a crack is to drill a hole at the very ends of it. Which is not a good idea on windows. Fix it the right way and get a new windshield.
If you get the crack "repaired" its just gonna crack again, only this time the crack will be bigger.

Keep, the scratching... it sucks... my SE-R knows Skađi's pains.
And the window, it's been happening to a lot of Lancer/Impreza owners.... Does the G6 have a heating strip on the lower portion of the window? If so, temperature differential claims another victim.
I don't believe so. The crack happened because of a rock, not of a differential (at least a big one), since my vents were only on the floor and "vents" (not the defroster), and my windows and sunroof were open at the time. I am a bit worried that a large differential would help it propogate. The end of the crack is the end of the window undcer the weather stripping, and the other end has turned up to the roof. So, I'm a bit weary of running the defroster to not help it propogate, even though the chances of it freezing now in my area are slim.
So, yeah, there is a new windshield in her future, just don't know when because moving is top priority now. but I figure gmpartsdirtect has one for $200, plus shipping, plus installation, should rum me maybe $500.
The thing i'm most pissed off is the back bumper scratch. The windshield, yes, it happens, sucks worse than Paris Hilton at a parole hearing, but what can I do? The back bumper scratch...that one is the one that whomever did it better have gone to outer mongolia seeking exhile.

when i had to get a windsheild replaced it was 90$. I didnt have full coverage insurance either.
Give the insurance place a call.
Yeah, a temp diff on the west coast shouldn't be a big deal... talk to me when you go from -30 celsius to +15celsius (or about -25F to 60ish) THAT will make it crack. If it's small enough you might be able to fill it... but you can check with your autoglass supplier and see.
Anyhow, Scratches really really really really really really really really really sucks. I have about 2000 to fill on the SE-R, and black is such a bitch to touch up even with a good brush and thinner, and you seem to have deep scratches.
I know in Florida, insurance is required to replace your windshield for you free of charge.

^ that's because there's no inspection, and if it wasn't free, nobody would ever get it done.

Keeper.. C'mon, seriously? The damage sucks, but a little paint is no reason to be after blood. It leaves no room for avenging larger crimes for one thing. Anyway, the paint sucks. The windshield, replace it. "Fixing" cracks just isn't worth it. Chips sure, cracks (especially huge monsters like that).. Nope. You also said you would go after the person that, through no action other than driving, flung a stone up off a tire. You know how silly that sounds? How many widshields have you cracked just by driving over a stone? You have no idea do you. It's not like the guy chucked a rock out the window at you, just calm down.
One thing I have learned over the years... It's just a car, get over it. Cars always break your heart anyway, do not fall in love with them.
Get a windshield and some paint, get on with it, get over it and enjoy life.

The last three new cars I have had, someone else made the first damage. I actually might be getting used to it.
I wish I was the type of person that doesn't see the details.
Brown Eye wrote:^ that's because there's no inspection, and if it wasn't free, nobody would ever get it done.
So why doesn't my insurance do that then? My state has no inspection.. I've never heard of them doing it.

Man that really sucks....
I had an old beater for 3 straight years and never had a scratch on it. Since I have a new car, everybody runs into me and the car has been painted like 5 times. Old beaters FTW.
i dont know why everyone just doesnt get the free glass thing with insurance
it costs hardly anything more, and is totally worth it for situations like this
which states don't have safety inspections?
Washington doesn't.
Marin8...will look into it. If I don't have it, I'll likley get it.
Hahaha: I was venting. the rock chip is one of those: "what can you do about it... It's the scratch that upsets me because it's obviously someone that is worth less than my car's value--even depreciated. But you know misanthropistic me.

. Besdies, even if it was some snot-nosed brat...i wouldn't destroy him/her. i'd want to make THEM touch it up..or cover the cost of it.
Their parents though need to meet mister grinder pump. After all, it's a respect issue. I'm sure you'd teach your kids never to mess with someone else's car, and if they do damage it, they would be held accountable, right? it's the principle of the matter. You seem to me as a responsible "life and let live--respect everyone else and they'll respect you" type of person. You'd also pass that on to your kids. Really, the only difference between you and I in that respect is that you're more "Turn the other cheek" and i'm more "Crush, Kill, Destroy."

I understand and I agree, with the respect other's property part. Yes, given the opportunity, they would learn some respect, quickly. I would hold them accountable, if available, but let's face it, you'll never catch the prat that did it. It sucks to be sure but a year from now, it'll barely be a memory (unless your life really is that dull).
Enjoy life. Or to quote the late great Warran Zevon "enjoy every sandwhich"
