Got to take out a new 2008 VW R32 (V6 AWD GTi)

Friday I took out a new R32 at... I was really impressed.... by how much that car sucks! It terms of comfort and everything its very nice but no different then the GTI inside except for the accent color is a gay metal square pattern instead of the GTI's brushed aluminum and the gauges are different... no more blue face and red needles, they are white faced with blue needels and thats about it for the interior. The exterior isn't much different from the GTI either, different front bumper an different rear bumper with dual center exhaust, and wheels are same size but different design then the GTI's. Only other different is the blue calipers. In terms of powertrain thats the whats makes the R32 so special... AWD 6-speed DSG w/ paddle shifters and a VR6 engine and it all comes with some GIGANTIC brakes. Sounds impressive on paper... till you drive it. As pulling out into no traffic I put the gas pedal to the floor got traction under hard accell while turning out and one it hit the street kept it to the floor hit the paddle for second and waited and waited and waited... then eventually gave up on staying on the gas till that overweight slow piece of @!#$ could get 3rd and slowed down. Horribly disapointed, a base 2.0T GTI felt faster then the R32 and when you factor in the the $36,XXX MSRP tag this R32 was wearing is where you really see how much they suck. And the sad thing.. they are limited production and the 3 that we've got have sold the same day they come in.

VW dropped the ball again

oh yeah and the front ends come pre ruined with holes drilled in them and a lisence plate bracket installed. We don't put front brackets on ANY cars unless he customer wants it the R32's come off the trucks with brackets... gay

First, 0-60 in 5.8 seconds, thats gotta feel faster than the gti's 6.3 seconds.

For some reason I have a bug for a GTI 2.0 DSG, but no way I'd pay $28k for it.

Are you implying he measured 0-60 times then? I doubt it. His ass says it's slower, though statistics show it's not. That's his point.

I'm not much for magazine racing myself.

My question is the handling, that would be my main interest if looking at an R32..........................

Nice car IMO, maybe a little too pricey.

Sucks about the front plate...............I wonder if that's because they were destined for an IL dealer? No idea...doesn't make sense to me. So glad we don't have to have one!

I was only stating facts, you say I read an article and blah blah blah, but you know what, thats what they do for a living, so im sure they know the car better than most people on here, and im also sure they can drive it better too.

Yeah that it what they do for a living, but it seems fairly ignorant to suggest that because the R32 Motor Trend tested doesn't have a license plate bracket, the ones at the dealer in IL can't either. As far as the 0-60... half a second? Seems stupid to pay 8-10 grand more for a half-second decrease in 0-60 time.

All im saying is that I dont think all 5000 of the r32's are going to have the front mount plate, it probably will differ from state to state, regardind state laws on front mounts, but I do agree its overpriced for not that much more performance, but it is a quality built car with quality parts.

I think it's just as ignorant to suggest someone is paying 8-10 grand more for 0-60 times.

True, but those were the only two counterarguments brought up. And nowhere did I say ONLY for the 0-60 times

my home team Detroit Lions arguably play football for a living as well, does that mean they are the gold standard for all things football?

The essentials are a 3.2 liter, 250 horsepower v-6 engine, six speed auto-clutch transmission, haldex 4 all-wheel-drive system ( 4motion ), electromechanical steering, and MacPherson-strut front / multilink rear independent suspension. It also say that following a two day trek through the alps in a U.S. spec two door, it felt just as quick as the slightly heavier ( roughly 60 pounds ) euro four door we tested 0-60 in 5.8 seconds and the quarter mile in 14.4 at 95.5 mph.Volkswagen has decided to treat americans to the european versions suspension setting which are suitable not only for the track but also just about every squiggle and streak on a U.S. map.

I don't care what the magazines say I'm going purely off feel. I took a couple quick corners with it but seeing as I was driving a new car on public roads I wasn't exactly trying to pull off high speed road racing type stuff. The handeling felt good but the car felt heavy. As for which is faster... the R32 better be faster, 50 extra horse and a ton more money... I'm willing to bet most of the R32 0-60 advantage is in the launch. I didn't launch the car from stop, I got on it from a rolling start and its not at all impressive when compared to the GTI, a GTI with a chip should have the upper hand against the GTI. Its just a disapointing car from what the last one was. The last one had so much more to offer from the base GTI and this one doesn't.

(and so this can't be argued.... we install GIAC software on all kinds of stuff, including brand new cars, the cost can be rolled into the loan and its still fully 100% warrantied by us, we've sold brand new VW's with intake, turbo back exhaust, GIAC chip, lowered with 19's)
