Painting Car- Need Help

Hey guys I'm getting ready to paint my car. This is my first paint job so hopefully it goes well. The hood, bumeprs and fenders will be painted individually. I need to know if I have the correct painting proceedure. Heres what I was planning below:

Clean\Wash the vehicle
De-Wax\Grease
Sand the vehicle using 400grit
Mask all areas that I don't wish to be painted
Tack Cloth to remove all dust
Prime the car with urethane primer (2 coats)
Wet Sand the car with 600-800grit
Clean and Tach Cloth to remove all dust
Basecoat the car with urethane base (2-3coats)
Clearcoat the car with urethane clear (3-4 coats)
If needed Wet Sand Clear with 1500grit

I was told that you don't need to sand base if it's pretty smooth and clear coat is layed after the flash time (roughly 1-2hours).

If anyone has tips for operating the gun or what fan setting I should use, please let me know. I know I must try and keep a parallel spray roughly 10-12inches away from the car, going from left to right and at the end of a pass flick my wrist and continue to the next pass. I am painting my car from the factory Dehlia Teal Blue to an Electric Blue Metallic from the restorationshop.com( http://www.tcpglobal.com/restorationshop/itemdetail.aspx?itemno=RSP+UB2506-KIT-S ). My current gun\compressor setup is below:

Devilbiss Finishline 3- with 1.3,1.5,1.8 tips
Central Pneumatic 21 gallon compressor - might get the husky 60 gallon compressor before I start

if these questions need to be asked, you shouldnt be painting the car.

if your going to attempt to paint it yourself, make sure you use 50/50 passes. make sure you keep a steady hand and keep a constant speed of strokes. faster strokes leave less paint, slower strokes leave more paint. to slow and youll have drips. to fast and you wont get good coverage. once again, make sure you keep the same speed on everything you paint.

Thanks for the info guys! Joey I understand your point... I have wanted to learn to paint a car for a while and my sunfire was wrecked and I am currently fixing the damage ( windshield, hood, fenders, front bumper). I'm sure that my paint job wont be perfect, I can live with that. I just want to learn something new and hopefully if it goes well take pride in my accomplishment. I do have a family member who has painted several cars and I have been doing research and watching videos of professionals painting. I'm trying to ensure the best outcome possible for a paint newb like me. I'll be sure to do some practice sprays on some sheet metal before I paint to car to apply the best technique I can. I'll be sure to post pics of the progress, wish me luck boys! I will start painting in two weeks, after I research more and do some practice with the gun.
