my car has been out of comission for about a year since i didnt have a drivers license. and for the last few months everytime I've gone to start it it wont. i didnt really care much since i couldnt drive it anyway.
now though i can drive and i would like to get back in my cav.
im getting power fine and it tries to turn over but it just wont fire. im thinking it may have something to do with injectors and getting fuel to spark. anybody have any insight into my problem.
and how would i go about cleaning my injectors. im more of a looks guy and i dont know about my engine too much. its a 2.2 ohv

is the fuel pump coming on?
Is it a 5 speed? if it is try looking at the clutch sensor. try to start in neutral.
where are you located????i saw the 305 in ur username

you pull the fuses out and look at them. if its broken then it needs replaced. if not then its fine

you need 2 people. one to start the car. and one to lay on the ground near the tank to listen for the pump to come on

okay. i know how to tell if a fuse is bad. theyre all fine. but the relays you cant tell if their blown or not, so whatever.
where is my fuel pump? is it right by the tank?
and where is my fuel filter. my dad said i should replace that anyway

okay so i found my fuel filter but im not sure how to get it off. there is a green plastic piece that ive never seen before holding on one end. how do i get theis end off? the other end i know how to get off

dude...are ya sure its not flooded? Starting a car and shutting it off right away can cause them to flood. Try holding your foot to the floor and cranking it. If that doesnt work, remove the fuel pump fuse or relay till it starts.
okay so today i replaced the fuel filter and i just pulled my spark plugs and cleaned them cuz my dad suggested that it may not be getting a spark.
what the hell could be wrong with my car???
all my relays and fuses are working

you sure the car is all the way in park? even if its just slightly off it wont start

Ok, from the top.
1 - engine cranks but won't fire
- so it's not a neutral switch, or a clutch switch, or a bad starter, or starter relay.
2 - fuses/relays good
You said that you replaced your fuel filter correct?
When you removed the lines from the fuel filter did fuel spray all over, or just dribble/pour out?
If it sprayed, with force, this means your fuel pump is fine, if it only dribbled out the bit of fuel that was in the line as opposed to spraying out with force, than the fuel pump is not building pressure.
so - did the fuel spray out or dribble out when you changed the fuel filter??
it sprayed a tiny bit when i first separated the connection but it mostly just dripped out. so does this mean my fuel pump is shot?
damn

no... your pump is probably not bad. Did you try holding it to the floor and try to start? I know it may sound stupid but its so simple. If the last time the car ran you only ran it for a minute or so, it was running rich as they all do at cold start. When you shut them off without letting it warm up, it shuts off with excess fuel in the cylenders which i dont care what anyone says, will stay in there for months. The next time you go to start it, the computer sprays the cylenders with fuel, and with unburned fuel already in the cylenders floods out the plugs. The computer will continue to spray fuel as you crank it. The only way to return to a correct balance is to give the engine more air or to cut the fuel. It may not be the problem but I have seen this overlooked so many times and its something easy to try and doesnt require any real effort.
alright then,
go out to the car today, remove the spark plugs and leave them under the hood.
---this will allow any fuel in the cylinders to evaporate overnight.
disconnect the battery and leave it disconnected
---this will allow the computer to reset because sometimes after attempted starts the computer will stop triggering the fuel pump each time.
close the hood and leave the car overnight.
tomorrow - remove the fuel pump fuse.
reconnect the battery and crank the car over this way you can be sure there is no fuel in the cylinders.
reinstall the spark plugs and the fuel pump fuse.
try to start the car.
if it was just flooded this will fix it, all the fuel has been allowed to evaporate from the cylinders and it should start fine. You will need to crank the car for a longer than normal time because any fuel pressure will have been releived so the car will need to build pressure back up in the lines. If the car didn't start which means it wasn't just flooded, go back to the fuel filter, or any other fuel line you can reach and carefully open the lines to see if there is pressure - if it sprays out then there is pressure and you can move on to something else as the problem, if it doesn't spray out then you can be pretty sure you need a fuel pump. To be positive, you need to hook up a fuel pressure gauge to properly check the pressure the pump is putting out.
i was holding the pedal to the floor when i was trying to start it
i worked all night tonight so i dont really feel like puling my spark plugs tonight. ill do it in the morning and leave it til monday morning i guess

so - whats the word???
you get the car running???
nope. i did everything you said with the plugs and whatnot. my dad talked to his friend who is a mechanic, he suggested banging on the tank to do something like jump start the pump. that didnt do anything. i think were just gonna have to have it towed to his garage and have him do the work. im pretty disappointed that i cant do it myself. i really didnt want to have to have someone else work on my car but whatever. theres not much i can do about it
