Is it even possible to keep the AC on an LD9T?
Wednesday, August 13, 2008 3:36 PM
ive been looking over a few turbo setups on 2.4's and im having trouble locating set-ups that actually maintained the air conditioning and worked things to get it to stay... the setups ive seen with log manis the turbo is either dangerously close to the firewall ac connections or its actually hitting them WITHOUT the lines attached.

personally, when i do it i would like to keep my AC, i have an exploited log mani with EWG and here's the best part, its an auto. so room is basically non---existent.

am i going to be able to keep the AC? (running the charge pipes so i can keep it)

I could have kept mine had I not removed everything when the A/C compressor pooped out on me.

I'll be doing a turbo setup on Jeff's (Karnage) ld9 this weekend. We have the objective of maintaining a/c. I'll keep you posted on the pics bud.

there is about an inch of clearance between the compressor housing and the ac line. Ill see if i can get my brother to take a pic of it tonight.

I kept my a/c.. my downpipe gets close to the condensor but nothing too bad.. the condensor is just out of the pic. I can get more tonight for you..

and the charge pipes go under the car..

My guess is no.. mine has to go this week to make room, ugh.. among the other issues that were had, but we learned alot and will get all on, but not with the AC, and you might check your flange on your log mani, since if the flange is between 1 and 2 cyl. your gonna have fitment issues more than likely. Im just reporting my Auto LD9 progress and what we ran into, but curt can tell you more about that.

There is no reason it can't be done. It does come down to the placement of the flange on the manifold. Most set-up's I see anymore have the exhaust side of the turbo on the passenger's side. If you do it the other way (exhaust side on the driver's side), like the SpeedCraft kit's were, you could do this no problem.

With the speedcraft manifold I may have to loose my heater. I might try a few things when i do go to use it so that hopefully I dont. Hmm I wonder how well the A/C evaporator core would work as a heater core??

Boosted 4 years now, Full A/C. Heck I ran it at the track at the JCO bash 2 years in a row in the staging lanes while everybody else was sweating to death.

It's do-able. I wrapped the condenser lines for safety's sake. And my turbine side faces the passenger side too... you just have to be smart about the space that is and isn't there.

I'd do it that way anyday... on the driver's side you have to worry about fuel lines, power steering lines, heater core lines, shift cables.... no thanks!

He has an automatic trans, so the piping has to go over the car, same with why the manifold has to have the flange off 3 and 4.. the huge transmission really gets in the way. If you can keep AC thats great, id love to keep it too.. but when your talking auto a lot of things have to change, look at DatWhiteCavy andn Skilz.. both of which are auto LD9s, both have piping up top, and manifolds off 3 and 4, and are missing AC. Hopefully maybe someone knows a way to do that, and if they do I would love to know, but there just doesnt seem to be room for a turbo and piping next to the condensor when your flange has to be that close.

A/C is over rated, but when there's a will there's a way

My 96 is a auto and has the SpeedCraft kit on it. Heater is not a issue, stock placement. This car was made from the factory with no A/C, but A/C could be put in if I wanted to. As already said can be done, too many people like to pull things off for weight and make it seem no possible.

Well if you have the speedcraft manifold and a T3/T4 and kept the heater I guess I have nothing to worry about on mine then.
