JCAVI part 34059.5 ....yup still going
Tuesday, February 05, 2008 7:54 PM
well I was so sure I had last time. I had the @!#$ running with the Megasquirt, idleing fine, but with a slight lope. (I just assumed it was a fuel issue) and I went and ran my mouth on the org. well sure enough, Its still not fixed right. the car has virtually no power. with the gas smashed it would barley move. picture fully loaded moving van slow. I had assumed it was a fueling issue, becuase the wideband just stuck at 10. but (and I have been debating even saying this) what I didnt know was that the damn thing wasnt even hooked up and was defaulted to 10 and the bilps which I thought were an attempt at leaning out, was just eltrical noise. with the charge pipes guranted no leak, and the wideband hooked up, reading compleatly noraml. the car still made no power. which meant it was an internal problem.

Im assuming its the timing chain. when I timed it, I couldnt see the marks clearly, becuase they were almost compleatly worn away. and I couldnt afford a new chain, so I took a chance. and went for it, with the valve events looking right, and the car running seemingly normal, I thought I had it. long story short. no, i didnt.

after proving to my self the motor was timed wrong. I promised my self no more work till the warm weather....... that lasted 1 and half months. however I did luck out, and one of my good freinds from school lent me a huge hand and offered his shop. and whats great is now that we have a lift air, and well lit shop (dont laugh until youve tried working with nothing but a flashlight in the pitch dark) I can finally do it right. I can fix all the leaks. solder all the wires clean all the parts and do everything, that made me sick to work on my car.

and the best part. its all going down this saturday. now im not saying that we will be done saturday, but were going to knock out a huge chunk. and im going to take pictures.

heres a teaser to make this post less useless

this is how we left it sat night. its gonna go quick. the guy im working with knows his ish. and im no dummy with a wrench either. well at least not anymore

Solder isn't necessarily good for a wire that gets a great deal of vibrations. If you want to solder, fine...just make sure the connections are made via wires twisted together or with connectors, then run solder over the connection. I used crimp connectors and soldered over the crimped parts.

You're running MS-I, right? If you want Jason, send me your file, and I'll take a look at it and see if I can find anything wrong with it.

"Youth in Asia"...I don't see anything wrong with that.

My only advice man, just don't say another word about it until its done and running. And even then, don't post about it... Your car can hear you!

Me and PJ always joke at the plant we work at not to say things like "everything should go nice and smooth" or anything similar.... because the plant can hear it, and will make us pay dearly lol.

its so funny you mentioned that. I feel the same way. alot happened from when I posted the car getting "fixed" at minions from the night I thought it was really done. I promised myself no post until I had it running right. and when it was set and running I was ready to light up JBO, sure enough....

so heres where I sit, just one more chapter. im way past the point of caring anymore. if I get there and a cricket kamazies my motor, or I blow it up because the megasquirt fails. or just one more thing goes wrong. whatever. Ive been there and Ive seen it I know what its like to fail and its not big deal. Ill tow it back to my moms let her yell at me a little and save up. wait till I get an oppertunity, and start it over. Im not scared to fail any more, and for what its worth I think that means something now.

I guess will find out

long story short he punched a window and sliced ligaments in his arm.

details are basically his timing chains werent on, and he connected his battery and the motor started cranking, no damage was done, but they cannot figure out why everytime they hook the battery up the car tries to start.

we didnt really have time to do any diag the floor was getting really red

I dont want to load up the pics just yet, (im going to have nothing but time for a while so dont worry) but I will say that everything went really wrong really fast. and spontaniust motor cranking just put me over the edge, im punched out a window in the shop. and it decied that it was going to take my hand with it, theres a two inch gash from my wrist to my pinky, and the same size whole on my forearm. the funny part is that the whole time all i could think about was my car, i didnt care one bit about my arm. all i could think about were the weisco's

but I did just get the word from my boy, and he wanted to let me know that it passed a compression test, cam rotation test, and there is no visialbe damage. so were in the clear (hopefully) also I did document the whole thing up until the glass fight. so I have pics of the tear down, and when I get around to it ill throw them up

Selenoid wire too close to the main power wire. Just the magnetic field around the wire is enough to engage the starter.

Been there, done that. I had a hard time fiding the problem.

well, if the chain wasn't hooked up at all, then chances are that you might have gotten away with it.... but if the chain was even partially hung I'd bet money somethings bent or holed. More likely bent but stranger things have happened. I gotta say dude if nothing else I admire your fortitude, I'd have burned the thing to the ground out of frustration by now.

maybe its just me bu I'd be sitting there thinking.... wow I bet I look like an @!#$, this guy was nice enough to let me use his shop and I just purposely broke his window because I'm mad that I can't fix my own car.

I hope you at least had the balls to man up and pay for it out of your pocket.

My thoughts exactly. You did not even want to spend money on a timing chain and I bet that window cost at least that much. Hopefully you learned your lesson about punching stuff when you are mad. I learned the hard way after I punched a 2x4 stud and broke my bone in my hand. Getting the lidocane shot in between the broken bone was the most painful thing I have ever been through. Anyway if you get that mad again walk away from it until you are calm enough to look at it from an analytical standpoint. You will not be successful at fixing anything when you are that frustrated.
