OK... so when I order my kit, what extra parts do I need? Some people said to order extra head studs, since they brake easily ... should I do this?
Also, someone said you need to order an AC pulley if your car doesnt have AC ??? I dont have ac... should I be concerned?
What other extras are needed?
I got an 03 cav, 5speed, aftermarket cruise control, no abs, no AC, no options.
Thanks guys
Your going to need the a/c compressor there in order to take up the space for the serp belt. I found one from a local JBO member so i could just fill up the extra slack in the belt. Or if somehow you can find a a/c delete pulley, but to my knowledge nothing is made. Or i would have went that route instead.
I haven't myself heard of the intake manifold bolts breaking when removing them.
you'll need an ac compressor. you'll also need parts for the heat exchanger setup ie heat exchanger, pump, lines, reservoir. information on the h/e setup can be found in this forum
So i also gotta buy an AC compressor? How big is this thing? Cant I buy a different sized belt? There is nothing in the instructions indicateing I have to buy an AC compressor.
Is an AC compressor hard to install?
no u will need a compressor because the belt is ribbed on both sides. instead of the normal belt w/one side ribbed and the other flat. the compressor isnt very big bolts up w/3 bolts.
ac compressor

So will any old used one work?
yes as long as it will spin freely and is not froze up.

I see... I wonder why they fail to indicate this little fact on the websites that sell it... perhaps even include it in the kit to avoid troubles?
THANKS for the help...saved me 1 headache so far.
As for the bolts that brake easily... a couple of posts indicate they are order in items, and if they brake you gotta wait for them. Should I order a few to avoid a hold up if mine break?
I notice ebay has alot of ac bypass pulleys for older cavs... anyone ever seen one for an ecotec?

probably assume everyone has a/c. why send a part out if someone has a/c already? waste of money if not used in the kit.

my carDomain updated 11/5/07 I've got premium. Yes I do. I've got premium. How 'bout you?
iv never heard of head studs breaking... look up the GMPP eco SC kit. it comes with a list of everything that is needed

12.5@116 2.0 60ft
I've broken a stud when installing the M62. It must have been a bad casting because I wasn't putting very much torque on it at all and it just snapped. Luckily there's plenty of other studs and nuts holding it down, no real issue.

14.330 @ 96.37mph
Judgeing by the picture of your car.... you got a 2.4L, not an eco...
would they use the same bolts?
lol head studs are in the head, your talking about the studs that mount the s/c to the intake side.
could be... i just recall someones bolts breaking during the sc install
You might be able to shell out a used A/C if you were wanting to save some weight. If you do this, post whether its piston or scroll type compressor (I've always wondered).

yea it is that bolt since I broke one as well doing my install. Using a torque wrench on these installs Would be very smart if you have one handy and know the differences between 18 lbs and 188 lol.
