Just wondering what measurement anyone was using on piston rings??
I am running my rings at .021 top, .018 second, but you should probably call and ask Wiseco what they recommend you set them at or call the manufacturer of the rings. They will probably tell you to set them loose also due to the fact you are boosting.
Word to the wise, since they are file to fit and from the sounds of it you haven't done this before, I would find someone who is very experienced in this procedure to show you how to do this since you can %#@&*! up the cylinder walls in a hurry if they are done wrong.
thanks, just wanted to know if i had the correct specs from the instuctions on a 2.2 ecotec ring end gap .014 ?? first and second ring
I have the 2.2L performance book at home, I can't quite remember the end gap.
I believe it was something like .014 for race, and .020 for daily?
please don't quote me on that, there is a formula you can figure out as well.
If a person buys the rings separately from the pistons they should come with a general spec sheet formula as to gap versus bore and what type of usage (boost/nitrous/NA). I would post it but my sheet is at the shop. Most experienced engine builders use the formula and then adjust accordingly for what usage (hard usage=higher heat=more gap needed)
I personally would not gap the top and second rings the same, but this is up to you. The top ring is going to see more heat and expand more than the second ring, the last thing you would want to have happen is to have the ends of the ring butt together and bust a ring land.
I had called wiseco and they told me 1st ring .012 and 2nd. ring . 0135 to .014, Has anyone filed there rings on there ecotec motor to these specs. ???
Factory Specs are 1st ring .008-.016
2nd. ring .014 -.022
