Today as I was driving home from work I was listening to some Lil Jon. It was up loud as usual, and everything is going good,,, off work early, nice sunny day, windows down, nice breeze etc etc. Well I goto change songs and I accidentally hit my "EQ" button, which is usually set to "Flat" but when you press it once it goes to "Super BASS"... needless to say the bass jumped up a helluva lot and I hear a POP noise come from the back of my car.. I turn the music down and fly home.. I open the trunk to see a nice tear from the outer surround of the sub all the way down to the center of the sub. That's about a 6 or 7 inch rip since I have a 15..
With that said I'm shopping to buy a new sub asap. I had a 15, but I'm thinking of getting a 12 so I can have my trunk back and going with a fiberglass box made into the side of the trunk. So any one have some suggestions on subs? My current amp is 4 ohm mono 750 wRMS, and I'd like to keep that amp. I like my music loud but I don't need to be heard down the block and SQ is fairly high priority. Suggestions?
I like my single 10" Infinity Kappa Perfect 10.1D
Stick with atleast 12" for the best of both SQL and SPL world imo.

Yeah my current sub is a kicker.. I liked it till Lil Jon went crazy on it. I've looked at the L7, but you think I'd just be better off getting an L5? Like I said I'm not changing amps and I'm gonna push a max of about 750 wRMS.. I'm not sure I should spend the cash on an L7 when I won't be pushing it to its full potential... got some enlightenment?
don't waste your money on getting an l7....the l5 gets just as loud but takes less power to do it.

I've had my mtx blue thunder extreme 12" for a few years...never disappointed me...well for a while i had 2 of them, too loud, so i just rock one now, had the other one just sitting around in case one blows, but hasn't happened yet.

That's what I was thinking ^^

send him the bill! lol
lol and he'd say WHAT!? and send his body guards to carry me away
Either way .. unless I get any more suggestions before tomorow night I'm gonna order a Kicker L5 then. I'm also thinking of making a simple fiberglass enclosure to go on the side of my trunk. One so I can put my jack and spare back in there and secondly I think it'd look nice and I like going custom. Any cons to doing glass over mdf besides the major work ?
that sux dude....he cooked my JL's and Clarions
lMAO...PWNT (crunkjuice stylee)
I just got some new Xtant A series 12"'s and they are great..they hit very hard..the X series is better and fairly inexpensive so i'd suggest one or 2 of those..if not get something JL, W7, W3
I've never really heard much of the Xtant subs, so I dunno if I'd risk buying a sub I dunno about. As far as JL's go, I'd only want the W7, and its way to expensive for my tastes. I might as well order an RE XXX ..... jk it's a little overkill for my budget, seeing as how I'd just HAVE to get a more powerful amp, then I'd just HAVE to do a lot of other things for my audio lol
Anyone got insight on the fiberglass vs mdf question? I know glassing will be a lot more work, other than that are there any pro's or con's compared to mdf? soundwise? other
NO, DISTORTION KILLED YOUR SUB!

I'd be willing to bet it's a Pioneer.

The system has arrived.
My alpine has an MX button (bass).

Yes it is a Pioneer.. a Premier DEH-P8MP to be precise.. I believe I have it noted in my reg.. and yes I know distortion is what killed my sub, it just so happened I was listening to Lil Jon when I hit the "EQ" button that put my settings to "Super Bass" (It has several presets that are named IE Super Bass, Natural, Power, Vocal, Flat) I normally have it set to "Flat" but the next preset after Flat is Super Bass. But I'll say Lil Jon heavy bass beats at least helped attribute to it, if I'd have been listening to say.. oh I dunno something "country"-ish I might have gotten away with it, but I hate country anyways lol.
Anyway, Cavi in KC, you have me wondering if you think Pioneer HU's send "dirty" signal or you just read my reg like I hope you did lol, I'd hate to think I spent over 300 bucks on this HU just to hear it likes to screw stuff up
Also, the 12 in L5 is rated for 600 wRMS, I don't run heavy risk of blowing it if I give it .. oh say about 100 more wRMS?
probably not. I have a 15" massive audio competition series sub and the thing hits ridiculously hard and clean in a ported box. That is my recommendation. I am running a Cutting Edge amp 550rms at 1 ohm stable to the 15" too tired to translate exactly how that would compare to your amp?

I didn't read your profile, I just know what settings Pioneer HU's have on them.
But no, I don't think they send dirty signals, I have one myself; other then one Clarion, only brand I've ever used for HU's. When you set it to Super Bass it clipped the hell out of your amp.

My amp is only 4 ohm mono stable, but does ~750 wRMS at that ohm. But next question for clarification purposes for me, my amp 4 ohm mono stable is also 2 ohm stereo stable and does 375wRMS x2 @ 2 ohm stereo. The L5 you can get either dual 2 ohm or dual 4's. I am thinking I should get teh dual 2's so I can wire up mono and get a 4 ohm load total. But I was wondering since my amp is also 2 ohm stereo stable, if I could wire each channel to each coil and be safe? Would it be better or should I just wire it up mono and get the 4 ohm load?

you just piss me off.. he obviouslly has 1/2 a brain cell and knows that lil jon was not solely responsible for his sub blowing... you have to come in here and be all serious thinking that ur the only one who knows everything and then you make ur self look like an idiot... my hu is sony xplod, and yes it has different EQ settings and one of them is XPLOD (which is all bass) every headunit with a built in 7 band EQ should have presets and i garuntee one of them will be the equivalent of XPLOD, or SUPER BASS, or wutever...
god i dunno why but you just rub me the wrong way in almost everyone of ur posts.......
pioneer's have a super bass eq pre-set.....duh

The mx button brings out both highs and lows.
