HELP !!
Tuesday, May 10, 2005 11:15 AM
Hey everyone, I have an Alpine MRV-F405 amp going to my Eclipse 6x9s and 6.5"s in the door. Also, im not sure if its needed but also I have an Optima battery, 15 Farad Alumapro cap, JL 12 W7, and my other amp is a JL 1000/1. I have everything coming from the cap to the two amps, and everything has been just fine aside from popping a circuit breaker a couple times.

Anyways, onto the quesion now that you know what I have to work with. All of a sudden last night the Alpine cut out and I lost my highs and I figured I popped the breaker or blew a fuse but the breaker was just fine and the so was the fuses, and the light is still on showing me that the amp still has power and I tightened every connection and switched all the switches on the amp off and on going down the line thinkin maybe somehow something got switched on accident, but after all that things are back to how they are and still no highs, bass is fine on the JL, but no highs . I have been playing with it all night and all day so far, but I think my head is about to explode, so any help would be appriciated.

P.S. I tried unbridging the speakers and moving terminals but, they all went back to where they were. So I dont think that has anything to do with it. Please help I need music ! I drive 300 miles a day, so this really sucks. Thanks in advance and sorry for the long ass post

Could it be your CD player have you checked the connections there. Do you have another audio source you could plug into the amp to test it?

I havent checked the CD player because everything was fine and it just cut out and its still playing the bass fine from the same HeadUnit... but I might try throwing in a new 4 channel amp and seeing if it works, then I know its the amp, but thanks for the help bro.

Use a mulimeter to test the speaker outputs and RCA inputs on your amp for voltage. If there is voltage on the RCAs but no voltage on the speaker outputs it's a problem inside the amp itself.

Is your signal coming from one set of RCAs through one amp to another or do you have two sets coming back from the headunit?

I have 2 sets or RCAs one going to each amp, and the one for the sub is working just fine, and I did check that earlier and I wasnt getting anything from the terminals, I checked with a test light and a multimeter and didnt get anything.. but I didnt check the RCAs themselves. I really hope this amp didnt quit on me. It hasnt been pushed really hard and its only a couple years old with no problems..

Umm you said something about bridged???? Do you have your high's bridged?? Are you running your eclipse off an amp or off of the deck. If you are running them off the deck and the deck is working ok but no sound you might have just blown the internal caps for the amp in the deck. If you are running the speakers off of an amp and are bridging them, then you might have cooked your speakers altogether. Eclipse is really nice stuff and if you are running the component speakers they will only need about 80 RMS per speaker. Any more will either cook them or short circuit the speakers. If you are running the component speakers they have a circuit breaker in them so you won't put too much power or distortion. You may need to unplug the speakers then reinsert them into the amp. But be careful of how many watts you put into them. If your gains on your amp are too high they will clip out. The popping noise is from an improper ground or not good enough ground for your amps. If you are clipping your circuit every once in a while you might be running your gains too high. Do you run your Bass and treble on MAX all the time in your deck an run the Loud this can cause your peek music to be too much and do the same damage. Only run your base up a little from 0 or at 0 db and eq your amps to do the work.

I looked up the amp and it is perfect for those speakers when they are NOT bridged. I didn't read the 1st part of your post sorry. Alpine is a really clean amp and the speakers are a good choice..... I have the compnent 6x9's too. Sound is great but if you are trying to run them at 2ohm that might not be good. try just hooking them up in line at 4ohm's and see what happens.

if your sub amp works, take the rcas for the highs and plug them into your sub amp, and switch the crossover to full range and listen at a low volume, if your getting sound out of the subs u know the problem is with the amp for the highs, if you get no sound u can take the rcas from the sub and hook them into the highs amp and listen at a low volume. if u get sound u know its either the rca or the headunit having problems. next thing to do is take the sub rca and hook it into the other rca line (where the highs rca was,) then to your amp. if it works, u know that the rca is bad, if it doesnt work, u know the headunits rca output is bad. this will rule out every piece of equipment until u find out exactly what it is.
