Taking apart my dash
Tuesday, May 03, 2005 6:37 PM
I was just wondering if anyone could tell me how to take apart my dash to put in a cd player. I have the bracket, harness, etc., and I'm actually MECP certified. To be completely honest, I'm just too frickin' lazy to try to figure it out myself.

wow....

there's a website with the how-to somewhere...basically you take out a bunch of screws...and take the top of..then take out some more screws, and take the bezel off.

very helpful info.....

trying to get this goddamn cd/mp3 deck i just bought to mount flush. Theres a @!#$ airbox back there which never allowed for my rca jacks to plug in on my old deck and mount flush, now i have gobs of wires since my new deck is XM ready and has aux inputs and S video cables and @!#$ back there..... Anyways some creative routing is in order and since i dont have a @!#$ gnome or gremlin handy to feed into the air vents as to help me place the wires, i have to rip the dash apart!!!!!

Thanks for the link dood...

yea, not much room back there if you have a lot of wiring. it'll help if you cut away that extra plastic back there.

I had to push my harness to the left...and the rca's and other crap i pulled from behind the dash(up under the center console) while i pushed it in from the front, just sort of have to work it in

yeah .... funny thing was.... after all that @!#$ taking the dash off,,,, which in all reality juss took time.... that link is awesome... step by step... easy... anyways....

The back of the thing was already cut as much as possible for the other deck, but theres a rivet back there that i assume is imperative to the structural integrity of the lower dash, so i couldnt cut it. After a bit of brainstorming, i realized i actually just needed a thicker din-sized spacer that brought the deck out a bit further. I went to circuit city and the dood ripped into one of his install packages and gave me a thicker one for a buck! Anyways the stereo is hooked up and flush, now i gotta put my dash back together..... but first.... a celebratory jack and coke

Its 5:00 somewhere!

When I installed my headunit with 7" moniter, the unit would slide back out. At first I thought it was the RCA cables hitting the air vent. so I went to Radio Shack and bought RCA cables with shorter ends. That still didn't fix it. So I took off the top half of the air vent (with out this on you can look at the unit from the top). I started reinstalling the unit and noticed that the bridge that goes across the top of the factory unit was in the way and it was pushing the unit back out. Got a pair of very sharp wire cutters and cut the bridge out and whatever was attached to it. Reinstalled the unit and it fit. Might want to check that. Just my two cents.
