Im about to swap out my old stock engine because its getting too many miles on it. also I was thinking about doing a saturn ion swap into my fire but i dont know if that will work. Also, is it easy to switch from automatic to manual transmission? If so How do i do it?
Im not trying to come off as a smart ass, just to put that out there first...
im not sure about using the ion engines so i'll skip that.. someone else will know better. biggest thing will be mounts...
but as far as the switching from auto to manual... 1) depends on what you call easy and 2) what tools/experience you have.
i wouldnt label it as an "low difficulty job", probably not even "moderate difficulty",... i know there have been people on here that have done it so try searching and im sure you can turn something up.
but my biggest red flag is that you're asking if it would be hard. this leads me to believe that you are not aware of the differences between a auto and manual transmission set up; all the different parts that each one has. i thought about it once and then found a couple threads of guys doing it or talking about it and realized i didnt have access to the proper tools or knowledge (welding specifically) that are needed.... so i would say auto to manual = no. unless you have a shop do it
best of luck. if i come across some threads that'll help, i'll let ya know
I want to try a different set up than the 2.2 eco-tec because i want to try to get 350hp. Plus my dad is going to help me with the swap. he has been working on cars for 35 years. so any help or good ideas let me know. I really want to get a turbo engine but i would prefer to build my own. So i guess i just want to know the set ups that will work
The 2.2L Ecotec(L61) is the best and easiest to put into 03+ Js. If you want to get 350hp just build the engine(rods and wrist pins are the weak piont in these engines) and turbocharge it.

I would agree. With the newer j-bodies w/ ECOTEC just mod the damn thing and put a turbo on there big enough to fit a fetus in, and you'll be ok.
Okay thanks. Is there any other companies out there besides Hahn Racecraft? also the only site i found for ecotec engine parts is allecotec.com. Anyone know of any other sites? i want to find the best deal.
You really cant get a better deal on ecotec parts than Karo @ Allecotec. He is a regular on the forum, get in contact with him and he can get you what you need.
There is another company making turbo kits for ecotecs other than Hahn Racecraft, but IMO and many other opinion, hahn Stage II kit is the best available for the ecotec.

....Or piece together your own kit, that is what i did with my 2200...
Now you said you have an 03 fire which means unless there was a prior engine swap, you have a 2.2 eco in it anyways, so to fit in a newer low mileage 2.2 eco would be a direct swap and your easiest bet.

I still have the 2.2 and this winter im going to port and polish it and add some goodies to it. is there way i can get a turbo to work with my auto transmission?
umm yah..put it on...turbos will work with auto or manual.it just depends whos kit you buy or what you setup..hahn doesnt allow you to run it on a auto..but if you want i did a how to in the tranny forum on how to swap trannies
the eco definitely has the best aftermarket support, and is the correct motor for the car (not that i have something against swapping). I would stick with it.
I have an Ion motor in my Cavalier.

The problem the Hahn kit has with Auto trannies are too big and interfer with their charge pipe design. But that can be solved by re routing the charge pipes.
